How to climb the Moonfire Tower (if you're not great at jump puzzles)

In the other discussions on the Moonfire Faire, I saw that a few people said they couldn't manage the jump puzzles required to complete the quest and get their new beachwear. Maybe they got there in the end, but if not, I've put together a map of how to do that first bit of the climb. (Somewhat late, I admit, but at least I got to doing it before the event ended.)

I'm not great at jumping puzzles either, but after a few times through it trying to make at least some progress on the "challenge level" of the tower, it feels fairly straightforward - and I'd hate for people to miss out on completing the quest because of it.

As I noted in the instructions on the image, I'd recommend not equipping rogue/ninja class to complete this climb. It helps for the upper part of the tower, but if I fell off and had to do this section again, I found I was often jumping over rather than onto platforms. It was easier if I switched back to a different class.

Also, for the earlier second part of the obstacle course with the 'balance beams', you don't need to jump to lower beams but can simply run off the edge of the higher beam and drop down to it.

The short version: do yellow jumps from a standing position, and red jumps with a running start.

I'm sorry if that sounds rude, because it isn't meant to be, but people really struggle with this ?
That you miss-jump and fall a few times, sure, we all did. But really struggle to a point where you really cannot make it ? Where is the problem ? Where do you struggle and why ?

The optionnal part IS hard though, no doubt about that.

Anyway, nice visual guide ! And again, don't take this the wrong way, I'm genuinely curious.

Personally, I (and presumably the creators) thought the event seemed designed well enough for everyone to complete, maybe with a bit of practice, but there are people in this current thread and this one last week, saying it was too hard and they couldn't do it. So I thought it would be helpful to make a guide even though I'm not sure how needed it is.

Having had the idea, I would have felt bad if I hadn't gotten around to it.

Another tip is to turn this into a 2D jumping puzzle. Have the camera face the wall, then use the strafe options. Won't work for everyone, but it gets me through most jumps.

I didn't even think of not playing it as a 2D puzzle (other than the narrow beam that you need to see in 3D space). Is that maybe how some people were having trouble with it?

I didn't find any difficulty in any of it, and I even tried it once on the controller. So it seems like if someone is having a problem with it, it's the way they're trying to climb it.

For reference this is how I did it with my Miqo'te:
    https://youtu.be/ngnzyBrQqHE

I initially did it with a lalafell, and there is a slight difference with the lalafell as they can clear the 5 to 6 point on the image, where as all taller players and players on mount have to jump to between the posts on either side of 6, or aim the camera so you land on 6, but in front of the post, which sticks out a little.

My strategy with it was to just hug the wall.

Platform 6 sticks out slightly further than the other platforms. As long as you jump towards the front edge of it*, you should always end up on it because of the target circle 'standing zone' physics.

    * probably should have mentioned that on the instructions.

The ironic thing about the rogue/ninja class is that considering how dexterous ninjas are supposed to be, they should have the easiest time clearing this!

    A further thought on this...

I said before that I wouldn't think of doing it any other way. This may be a critical difference between PC/keyboard and PS4/controller players. I'm using PS4 and I'm not sure if I can strafe or walk backwards, but my character will walk forwards in whatever direction I press the analogue stick.

Can you only walk forwards 'into' the screen with keyboard controls?

Indeed! And NPCs keep dropping hints about ninjas as well.

Too much fancy jumping, not enough paying attention.

It depends a lot on what camera mode you're using, I guess. I use the classic mode and the wasd buttons. I don't want to have the camera at my chara's back because it's harder for me to gauge distance like that, but a and d not only move you, but change the camera angel as well. That's why strafe is good for this.
