Sadly, it will be closer to six months. 4.5 will likely drop mid January, and both expansions have released near the end of June. Unless they surprise us, 4.5 is going to be a rough period.I think it's more so they don't want to say anything displeasing to stop the subs dropping any more due to content drought. I mean I recently unsubbed because Eureka is dirt. If they say anything people don't want to hear it will make it worse. Eureka is really the only content that will be there 4.5 to 5.0 so for 3-4 month the only stuff will be that or grind and prepare for a new expansion, and most people don't want that

Eureka is one of the reasons we are not getting additional dungeons per patch. So we can get something different that deviates from the usual? And what we get instead is our head producer defending content that is bottom of the un-fun barrel. Please learn how to do that.
And when you do find it what do you get? Is it more FATEs?The most efficient way of increasing EL still hasn't been found.
People complain when things get more boring and less fun? No way!It kind of feels like even though people ask for change, they're upset when there is change.
You don't have to look far Yoshida, people enjoy playing Monster Hunter for a reason!...because they just want to hunt NMs
Make more engaging and funeurekarelic...Please learn how to do that.
I'm getting rather concerned about how the coming months are going to pan out with their initially planned release for 5.x having been in late 2019.
It's making me afraid that they'll try to rush out 5.x to alleviate the content drought.

How content is now not sure if they even bring out 5.0 that even buy it. Bet it be worse than Stormblood is. Each expansion keeps getting less and less content but charge same amount for it.
He is usually like this anyways. From the housing fiasco "Housing is too expensive" he said "what are you doing with your gil?" to Diadem 2.0 weapons "ya'all need to calm down." Honestly, his Pagos responses pretty much boil down to "ya'all need to calm down," and would probably have a similar response to the Ravens. I really wouldn't read much into what he says honestly. He probably just doesn't have much to say because he has a 14 hour live stream planned including a live letter, and 3 fan fests to do.
SE should really hire someone to do a digest of information for us though or even just use the community team - having to go by sometimes incorrect fan translations and people misinterpreting things can't be good for business. Hard to tell tone from text except the parts where it says *laughs*.
500-650 staff is an insane amount of staff though, I guess at least 1/3 of them are working on the next expansion.

Wow that interview..for me that kinda highlights how they truly want us to just play the game how they want to see it instead of trying to make something that would make the majority of the playerbase happy, even if its means that they have to go against their own view.
Right now we need to create big things fast, so there are usually 350 people involved in FFXIV development and a little under 500 people during crunch time. If you include the management team then it probably reaches 650. - So much to them having a small team.
So, I think that the feel of Pagos will change again. It's really hard to make new rules for a game within a game. But that's precisely why we're taking on this challenge, so that we can receive feedback and create content that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. And how exactly can Pagos be enjoyed in a variety of ways? Yes seemingly people still have not found the best way to spawn stuff but its not like the solution wont have chaining monsters in this..so where is teh variety?
Yoshida: For me, I kind of feel that 5 years doesn't really matter. I mean, it's been 8 years since 1.0. What's more important is how FFXIV is going to evolve next. I think we're running out of features that we're missing as far as the global standard for MMORPGs goes. If I had to say, I think that in order to prevent other MMOs from catching up, we should flesh out what it means to "live" in the world of FFXIV with things that only FFXIV can do, like Perform and the housing roleplay stuff.
Aka we dont have a vision, we believe that those systems like housing and glamour are already at global standard (even though they are completely inferior to other famous MMOs..) and somehow perform and housing roleplay is what makes the game..wow.
We can accomplish this because of what we've built up over 5 years instead of repeating the same thing over and over, and I want to keep doing that. I don't know if it'll be for another 5 years, 10 years, or what, but I want to make this a game that will be enjoyed by as many people as possible.
I...I really have no words for that..x) Yeah we did not get repeating content at all..
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Hahahahaha, so much doom. Let me add the positive note, as I couldn't disagree more with tons of the comments I'm reading. I for one really enjoyed the interview, it did make me excited about future content. Yoshida hints at having surprises, and most importantly, he wants to dedicate efforts into making the world more alive, worth living in. That's righ up my alley.
Also, his comments about how Pagos hasn't been figured out yet made me interested, as I see that mindless chaining isn't the only way to do that content (I haven't been doing it because I don't like the chains, but might start again if the train is back).
And yes, that the tomestones formula is still there doesn't mean that we aren't getting different kinds of content. Eureka doesn't look like anything we had before, mind you. People want new things, more grindy, less grindy, more lasting, faster, easier, more difficult, now it's not different enough, now it's too different/old stuff is better... This is a bit crazy. in the end, people need to accept that not every piece of content is going to cater to their personal needs, and that there's always someone enjoying the kind of content you personally don't like.

Literally like smashing a square peg into a round hole. Beyond the satire however, its sad that mind numbing gameplay and heavy rng is considered good gameplay to begin with. Games are meant to stimulate the mind not the thumb."So, with the last patch, we didn't really increase the NM spawn rate, but we increased the amount of EXP they give. It's not as effective as it was in Anemos, but you can still wait for NM spawns if you want to. But for the weapon upgrades, your predecessors spent a lot of time and effort farming mobs to grow stronger, so we won't ease up on that. Please learn how to do that. It kind of feels like even though people ask for change, they're upset when there is change."
think that one part is my favorite, just "learn how to sit there for hours on end spamming your skills cause that's good gameplay"

Which game does this statement refer to? FFXIV? Nah. Must be another Game.
We can accomplish this because of what we've built up over 5 years instead of repeating the same thing over and over, and I want to keep doing that. I don't know if it'll be for another 5 years, 10 years, or what, but I want to make this a game that will be enjoyed by as many people as possible.
IF the Director/Producer is talking about FFXIX, then this stament is worrisome.
