    Targeting Allies and Enemies

    Here\\'s a scene:

I\\'m healing in O3 NM and Im currently targeting an ally. I see the boss turn but can\\'t make out exactly which way it\\'s facing, or rather what the game considers its front... and I get frogged because of its wide conal. If only i could\\'ve seen the (whatever you call it underneath the mob that displays its fear, flank etc. WHEN targetted), I coulda dodged it properly but because I was targeting an ally at the time, I couldn\\'t see it.

Is there a way to keep \\'it\\' displayed at all times? I hate healing and losing sight what direction the boss is facing because I constantly have to target allies instead.

In some instances you have to rely on the other party members for movement cues. Find someone reliable and follow them. Bards are great for this since they don't have any reason to stand in an AoE to maximise uptime. Bosses are also very scripted so eventually you just get an innate feeling for when an attack is coming. Enlarging the enemy list and using a focus target bar will also help you see what attack is coming and allow you to act accordingly.

Just target the boss. You only have to have a party member targeted at the very moment you start casting. There's plenty of time between casts to check the boss's target circle and determine its facing.

To keep the target circle displayed at all times: no.

But you can focus target the main tank and keep track of where they are, which may help. As Noble said, you can use your party members as visual cues (I have party members' names turned off, to reduce clutter and let me see the models better). You could set it to show initials only and no titles if you want the nameplates, but still with less clutter.

You can also play with the camera a bit. During moments where I need to keep especially good track of positions (say, Titan's bombs or Kefka's Trine or similar), I tend to go Bird's Eye View: Maximum zoom out, camera facing direct down. For many bosses, this will give you a good sense of their direction as well.
