Hope on the Waves Solo Duty - Unspoken Gear Lvl Requirement?

Hi everyone! Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I was wondering what I'm doing wrong as a Dragoon with the Hope on the Waves solo duty (finding Gosetsu and Yotsuju and fighting off the Garleans at the Confederacy). Yugiri keeps dying on me and even with Blood for Blood and Blood of the Dragon in either often or constant use, I'm at a loss as to what to to. In general, I:

-Take out the mages quickly first, then move on to the tanky boys;
-Move away from my NPC homies when targeted with any AoE to minimise damage.

AND YET, every single time, I get to the last bit where we have to pull three of those shooty tanky boys into Alphinaud's Starstorm and... nope. I'm always 20, 30 seconds off and Yugiri kicks the bucket.

I read somewhere on the internet that your gear lvl needs to be 340 or something. My current dragoon gear is at lvl 308 and gear has so far never been an issue. Does anyone here have any tips on the matter? I'd love to know if I really need to run a bunch of effing duties and hope something good drops before I can get back into the story. -_-

Ok, so after a quick bit of research to refresh my memory about which quest/fight youre talking about(and a peak at your character), im here with a couple ideas. So this quest is from patch 4.2 - chasing down the rumor that Gosetsu survived the ordeal at Doma. So for the fight, are any of the enemies self destructing? Can you tell what is killing Yugiri? In general it sounds like youre doing it right, but obviously something is missing. While the fight would certainly be easier with better gear, i imagine its tuned low enough for you to clear it with good play and strategy. Though i am curious why you dont have a single piece of tomestone gear. A full set of the i310 gear isnt all that common to see anymore(and indeed, would have been unusual even when this fight first went live). Even if you clear this fight without any upgrades, make better gear a priority. Theres a group instance coming up in the story and youll need ilvl 335 to enter. That duty unlocks during the quest "The Primary Agreement", so try to get your gear up before you dive into the story bit there for minimal interruption.

Thanks for that, Frizze! I know I've got some new tomestones so I'll shop around. As for explosions, I'll keep an eye on that. It's definitely what got me at some of the first times I tried.

The Tome vendor for level 70 is in Rhalgrs just east of the big aetheryte. The creation tomes you have buy 330 gear, the mendacity ones buy 360 stuff. And as i would imagine you know there are a ton of raid and dungeon options if you want to try your luck at loot drops(all of them giving creation/mendacity/both so you can still buy what you dont win certainly helps). As for the fight, my thinking was that maybe she was getting caught in some 'splosions even if you werent. I dont know if shes fighting targets on her own, but assisting her for a bit to make sure she finishes them off might be a strategy to try. If shes off on her own, maybe pull her targets closer to alphy(or anyone else on the battlefield who can heal) so that she can get a little extra protection. Couldnt hurt.

Absolutely, I'll try that once I get some better gear. I checked the tomestones I have and I can buy nothing yet, which means I'll just have to run a bunch of duties. So far, I've had the luxury of just being able to progress with whatever gear came from the story and class quests but now I have to grind duties and it kinda sucks. xD (Playing the world's tiniest violin because this is clearly just part of the game, but for me the top 100 activities are: 1-99 Story, 100 everything else. :P )

Tomes might be easier to earn then you think. Most of the daily roulettes(expert, 70, 50/60, leveling, trials, mentor, frontline, alliance, and normal raid) pay a bonus in tomes if you run them at level 70. Getting with a hunt train on the level 70 mobs will pay out in creation and mendacity(along with centurio seals). You can get them running PotD or HoH. You can get them doing treasure maps and uznair runs. A single run of the level 70 alliance raid(you currently meet the requirements for royal city but not yet for the 2nd one) would get you 100 creation and 20 mendacity(plus a shot at 330 gear if any drops for your class - 8 chances per run)... plus another 100 creation and 50 mendacity if you got their from the roulette rather then a direct que. Putting together a group to clear the first 4 floors of the level 70 raid(deltascape) would not only get you a handful of tomes(like 10+5 per floor) but probly a few upgrades as well. It takes a little bit of effort, but not as much as you might think. And once your gear is caught up unless you take a break you stay caught up until the next expansion.
