Ps4 migration question

Im a little confused about the process. I just saw a youtube video that said id need to download the whole game again. Is this true? Would I need to remove the game and redownload onto my console or will the automatic updates just do this for me (i.e technically I dont have to do anything but allow the updates to download)? Seen a fair bit if conflicting information, any ideas. Thanks in advance.

From what I read on the Lodestone, this entry stood out the most for me.

"As a note, gameplay will still be possible during the pre-migration download of the update files."

The wording seems to suggest you can still play the game with the old patch data BUT you would be downloading new patch information in the background to which on the 4th Sept, maintenance would ensure the new data completely replaces the old. Or so that's what I thought....

Thats what confused me. So all im doing is essentially downloading a big patch on the 28th ready for installation on the 2nd. Thanks.

Thanks for asking about it, since I missed seeing the notice until I saw your question.

Yes, it looks like during the pre-migration period, we have our consoles download the new version alongside the current one we're using. That way, on Sep. 4, the application can just apply all those (already downloaded) patches to switch us over to the new version. (Though the initial transition will still kind of suck for those with limited bandwidth internet connections. Mine's just slow, but at least I don't have to worry about its monthly totals.)

I'm really glad to hear the game is finally moving to use the PS4's update system, though. I've been wishing for it at every major patch and expansion (and requested it a couple of those times), when the current system's login requirement meant that the downloading couldn't start until I was there and ready to play. Now it can finally do it's downloading while I'm sleeping or at work so as to be ready once I'm actually there. So, thanks, SE.

No. The Update will delete the old data and replace with the new one.

How can we check to see if it is indeed downloading the data? I can go to Notifications > Downloads but I don't see anything.

I believe the process is currently on hold according to the lodestone. There is an issue with Sony that needs to be worked out first.
