I am not talking about a fix now (I gave up hope that housing will ever be a good and fair system.), I was talking about them seeing beforehand that private houses in wards could just end in failure and lots of angry people. Just take the amount that sub to the game and see how many wards you can realistically do and they should have noticed that it was never enough..heck if every single FC that exist wanted a house they would have probably not have enough wards. Thus they should have taken more time and completely created a instanced system for private houses. These houses would only exist when you are there, unlike the wards that are alway active. They could have put a story line behind private housing, could have started people will small ones and let them grow their houses. Heck with instanced houses people might have been able to own a house in every single zone.

But they decided to somehow throw FC and Privates in the same wards even when they said that they were different and then let us pay the same price even though they said that this would not cost the same (and with less features too) and then later implement a timer when "suddenly" everything was way too limited. All of those broken words for a decision that people should have seen coming..

The same with the earring: Do a lot people exist that have them? Probably not. But why was it necessary to go against their own words and risk the anger of those people if they could have simply made those replicas and/or put them behind the next ultimate or something..

I just sometimes really dont understand the devs.

@Topic: If people are fine that something that was hard earned in another version of the game is now part of an easy event then I hope that those people would also be fine if SE decides to give Ultimate fights the option to do it unsynch. Because it would not matter right and its interesting that some people are quite protective of their raiding (like not giving non-raiders the option to get equal good gear through other means, or letting Ultimate stay synched) but are fine with this. [Just to be sure, I am only talking about those that say no to one part and yes to the other]

The players who remained loyal to 1.0 have their names in the credits and have a discount on their subscription fee. That is more than enough acknowledgement. They don't need to have their every whim catered to, especially when it stifles progress.
Yes the 1.0 are gone thus why should the items come back? Honestly I have a collector in my friend list and even he once said that he does not count any of the 1.0 items as part of the collection thus has no problem on missing on them. So why is it important that they should exist in 2.0? Also how are they dictating the direction of the game? They are giving their feedback on something they hold dear to them and were a promise do exist too. And the OP also not said that they should not be released but that they should be renamed thus keeping both parties happy. How is that bad? (Feedback is not only valueable if its of your opinion. Lets not take the people down and talk about them as inferior fans just because they feel different about this..)

I for example want the feast mounts to be achieveable again but I would not want them to be put into a simple event..no I would still want to earn them in PVP but maybe with something that is not strictely limited.

They could have simply put those earrings behind Bahamut Ultimate, or for clearing this version Nael Savage. There are many ways they could have done it.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Right, I can understand that. But here's what a lot of people are forgetting:

    They don't owe you anything.

You are paying a fee to access the world they've built according to their rules and wishes.

Of course, this world can't exist without paying players. Paying players HAVE a voice. How much of that voice actually reaches its intended audience is another thing entirely.

Get enough loud voices together declaring your game is hot garbage and you can either scrap it or rebuild it. Fortunately for us, they chose the latter.

You can not put any trust in what they say all you want, but players speak with their pocketbooks. If you are still here, it means that the benefits, to you, outweigh the downsides.

(Not you, personally of course - but players as a whole).

They started giving out old seasonal event items almost immediately, so becoming unobtainable never really meant anything.

It seems like PVP rewards and some things from last year's FanFest are the only real hold-outs anymore (not including the 1.0 things), or are there more things I'm not aware of?

The merchandise stuff (plushie/lorebook) minions but that is less likely, since it is attached to a physical good and the rest of the legacy stuff. I think the last fanfest stuff will be on there eventually since the mog suit is already there even though they said it was exclusive™ .

SE likely doesn't care, since they get away with it every time.

It's a game people, se's game at that. Things change over time. Something they said long time ago doesn't mean it will never happen. At the end of the day 99% of the people complaining are still payng and playing the game so it changes nothing. Also does it really matter how you get x or y item? I wouldn't lose a second of sleep if se decided to give away anything I earned in the past. Simple fact I got it when I did and if it later on is easier or given away boo hoo doesn't hurt me in the slightest. Its just some pixels in a game that will eventually fade away.

I don't see the point in all the drama over things that are so small you wouldn't even notice on someone's character.

The fact is, no matter WHAT their actions are, the team is going to anger some group of people with every decision they make. They really cannot please everyone and trying to is an exercise is futility.

Looking at it from a purely business perspective, which do you think is the better way to keep subscribers subscribed?

    - Make unattainable things attainable over time while setting new goals to reach OR
    - Locking out the majority of the playerbase from having a thing because it meant something to a fraction-of-a-percentage of people half a decade ago.

People were angry when they made per-account housing changes. People were angry when they instituted the 45-day demolition timer. People were angry when Diadem 2.0 dropped weapons equal to or better than the Savage tier at the time.

    But life goes on.

Now, except in really rare cases, you can't wall off a whole block of houses in a neighborhood for yourself and then stop playing and keep those houses forever. Looking back, don't you think those changes were for the better?

    Let's look at another example.

You know what got people involved in PVP? Making weapons, armor and mounts attainable for everyone. Yes, you still had to work for them but not to the degree of putting your work/life/school on hold to no-life it through the queue and hope the system matches you with players who can tie their shoelaces. And that's just scratching the surface of a mode that is the laughingstock of the rest of the playerbase. Even the tournament wasn't enough to drum up much activity (at least in NA).

Nobody (but you) cares that you got your name on a leaderboard. Nobody (but you) cares that you got your name in the credits. Those things have meaning and memories to you, as they should. But 1.0 fights are dead. PVP is on life support. Open it up to the masses. Let the rest of us experience that fight as it was. Let more of us fight in the arena for rewards. Let us earn it, definitely, so we can savor not just the destination, but the journey as well.

This thread would have got to about 5 or 6 pages at most if the earrings were replicas rather than the original. The tiny amount of people who have originals would be happy, the tiny amount of people who want it for glam would be happy, the overwhelming masses who don't care would still not care.

No they can't please everyone, but it really would not have been hard to avoid this particular controversy.
