The thing is, they never promise anything, they say things, they're not set in stone as we can see. It's not like they make a contract either each time they speak.
It's sure is a bother how each time it's against what we want. But it's a company, I never saw one that would keep their word against their own profit.

If the use of the word promise is a bit much, how about advertise? SE can do whatever they like because ToS says they can, but if you advertise something one way, and then go back on it it does break trust. The problem in this case is that trust has been broken so many times that people have come to expect and anticipate it.

I really don't understand how there is any kind of defence, it's a constant topic, whether it be mog station, companion app, advertised content, exclusive items, even deadlines, the XIV team has an extremely poor track record of keeping to their word, and it makes looking to the future a problematic thing for players, because anything the Devs say is hard to believe, and many people have become sceptical and jaded towards any new promises and advertisements that are made.

There does have to be a breaking point though. The last time I've seen the game fair as badly as it is right now was in 3.1, and with the state of the game right now it seems to be getting even worse. I don't think sub numbers will be the breaking point for the game, rather content participation. If people aren't participating in the content being put out then the Devs have to step in and do something, and they need to rebuild the trust that has been broken in order to fix that issue.

And yes, an item in a video game. People pay lots of money for items in videogames. Of course not for this specific one, but it tells us that virtual items are maybe more important for a lot of people than you think.

You are a high end crafter, yes? Who invests lots of time to get tons of gil back? What would you say when they just give everyone the same amount of gil you have, wich makes the gil completely worthless due to inflation and all your work spent is redundant now? Would you just shrug it off like nothing? So many weeks of hard work are gone. That was time of your real life as well. But at least you have the memorys of the fun materia melding, fun adjusting prices at the retainers, fun waiting for the mats to spawn, fun crafting this item you need for the final craft a few hundred times... well, you maybe really did had fun, who knows? You would not play this when it was not fun to you.
