In a week or two, this topic will be dead and forgotten and everyone would have gotten over this. Just like the Moogle suit, veteran glamours, hellpups, and any other thing that was made no longer exclusive.

We should know by now that things change.

SE will either change it out for a Replica version, or they won't.
People are arguing their case now and once the event hits there's no going back. So yes the topic will absolutely die off soon, but that doesn't mean people will be happy about it.

Players voice their concerns all the time. This one happens to just have a fast approaching deadline.

A special auction house like ffix would get my attention.

So like the Black Market Auction House in WoW? It was a good idea for a gold sink, but people could grind gold so easily it made the idea worthless. It actually made RMT more prevalent than it had been in a long time.

Right. Also, FFXI has an Auction House ('AH') too which suffered pretty much the same problem, being used by gilsellers to move their ill-gotten loot (SE tried to control it by instituting taxes on purchases but it just drove players to use player-bazaars on alt 'mule' characters which would congregate around the zone lines outside cities, Rolanberry Fields specifically - this is why FFXIV does not have an AH and bazaars were rolled into retainers, their original function).

So an AH will not add anything more to the game at this point other than bring back the same old problems FFXI had, something I'm sure Yoshi is definitely mindful of. But I digress, as we've gone off topic...

Yes, they are just code, again, trying to diminish the value of something to somehow make it more acceptable. Why is a piece of iron more more valueable than a piece of code, both made as a memento and reminder? You bring up monetary value, you think XIV accounts don't have that or something?

SE reserves the right to deny you access to their servers and their accounts they allow you to rent on their game. You do not own them, whereas the ring in your example, you own and keep. That is why physical copies of things like games disc are such a major issue (when on the topic of digital downloads). Literally stopped reading there because you cannot differentiate between real value and fabricated value (false scarcity).

Literally, XIV goes poof, your account's value poofs with it. It's not a hard concept.

Alright, why do you care so vehemently about other people having access towards an item that is suppose to mark the 5th anniversary of XIV, a game that you seem to enjoy playing just as much as those other people, an attempt to broaden the horizons of other players and give them an inkling to what happened in 1.0 when so many barely know you exist? Do you enjoy being ghosts of past? Because, that's very much what you are right now.

Well it's not an item marking the anniversary to the people who already have them, or people who played 1.0 and knew about them. If I stumble across them in my armoire in a year or two I'm not going to think "that was the event item made for the rising event!"

People who already have White Ravens are getting fewer rewards from this event. I wouldn't call them selfish, they're already getting the short end of the stick. The Rising should be celebrating the games history and the people who've been with it all along, not kicking them in the pants.

And SE is probably only giving them away because they already go in the armoire so it saves them from having to take the time to make something new, even a replica. It's lazy and bad.

I'm tempted to do the same just as a gesture akin to pulling my bottom eyelid down and sticking my tongue out. I'd have just otherwise thrown the earrings into my armoire and let those who knew better tout them around 'proudly.' Now I just want to be a thorn in their sides just out of spite.

It is. It's celebrating the players that were a part of 1.0 and the players that have been playing since ARR's rebirth. That is the game's entire history right there. This game is not just about the 1.0 players, it's literally not just about you. It's about all of us. One person alone cannot stand for the entire MMO, the community does and right now the community is nitpicking and being petty against each other over a pair of damn earrings and who should have them and who shouldn't instead of being happy that the game has been around for five years at all.

Actually, people like me who did Coils in 2.X (or even now and actually watched the cut-scenes) would still know the significance of Nael, the White Raven, and his role in bringing the calamity upon Hydaelyn. Its place in The Rising is not lost on those that follow the lore, regardless of being a legacy player or not. However, that completely relies on the person caring about the story to begin with. I would say Sigma-Astra hit the nail squarely on the head.
