Then I missed it.
It wasn't talking about the earrings clashing with anything. Coil would've likely already been done the storyboarding phase at this time. Nael Van Darnus in that form had no business being there when all the content they've released had storyline ties outside of collaborations. Coil was literally a love letter to 1.0 among other things.
The fight as it was would probably be as much of a trainwreck (I mean this as incompatible, 1.0 was a different beast) as when Blizzard did their anniversary event with Molten Core because of how much the game changed. Hey guys, look at these old annoying mechanics they had to deal with! Disregarding the spell changes over that many years like dispels having a cooldown. It was still fun even though I had to take the reins of a PuG. It was barely scraping by as "Molten Core" though.
I'm pretty certain Blizzard didn't come out and say they were going to stay that way either and actually stated it was being worked on and to report missing items. Things like Arena mounts on the other hand have been though. There won't ever be any new Scarab Lord's either. The Emerald Dragons, Blizzard likes resolving story arcs outside of the game and leaving everyone that was following it in-game confused like Sunwell. Their removal was very much intentional for that reason, I believe it was stated as so as well.
The Grand Marshal/High Warlord gear is also heavily restricted if that character never got those ranks in vanilla. They asked the community later on how they felt about them being made available through RBG's. The community spoke up and they left them as is.It's funny for how much I chew out Blizzard for what they did to their other games like destroying modding. They actually communicate changes in WoW. They for the most part actually try to not leave everyone in the dark. That's part of what really gets me over this event, they just dropped it on an event page without a word. I really wouldn't be surprised if they never mention why they did it either. SE's communication has dropped off severely since ARR or even the beta, I'm not sure which anymore."But the community's impression on prestige items like this is important. We appreciate all of your feedback on the idea."
"Update: Thanks for the feedback. We have decided to not make these sets available."
It's not going to get anybody anywhere trying to discern what made them say it behind the scenes. They're not a small business and this all gets filtered through public relations including YoshiP's antics on stream since the beginning.
When they butter it up as a reason to stay subscribed I feel its pretty obvious what they meant. This situation plainly shouldn't have happened. It's not a walking-on-eggshells problem tying their arm behind their back (not your words). It was a small list of things they stressed to 1.0 players to get, now, if you wanted them because they were going away. There's nothing wrong with them showing a little more value to those that were there at the time.
