All the while not realizing that the symbol means less because of the fact discontinued content means no one can even attempt the feat. It becomes more of a point of who happened to be playing an iteration of the game that was widely lauded as being terrible. In that light, it smacks of elitism.

This is good. It's like if SE suddenly decide to manufacture more Odin statues (with the emote) but then complaining that suddenly more people have the chance to get access to it as well. Mentality is essentially if no one has the chance to get it the original way, then no one should have it at all!

Being proud of an accomplishment is one thing, but denying other people the same opportunity is just wrong.

It's really baffling seeing some people obsess over timed exclusives as if they're the only meaningful things in their lives.

I bought both the Shiva and Odin statues purely for the emotes that came with them. I didn't do it for the sake of bragging rights, I did it because I thought they were neat and I happen to have a disposable income.

They set me back roughly £200. I've spent much more than that on cosmetics. The Mog Station could be updated tomorrow to sell the emotes for £5 and it wouldn't bother me. They could be added to the game as part of a quest reward and that wouldn't bother me either.

I feel the same way about anything I've earned in the game itself. I earn or buy things because I want to be able to enjoy them. If other people happen to be given easier access to the things I acquired then I consider that to be perfectly fine. In fact, I encourage it since it means that both friends and strangers alike are able to enjoy them as well.

The players who seem to only find enjoyment by denying others something neat are not the sort of players I want this game to cater to moving forward.

It's not really about denying others items though, it's about the idea of giving away trophies to everyone, thusly invalidating said trophy of it's merit.
Almost everyone seems to agree just having Replica White Ravens is the best solution here. People can have their new glamour and others retain their trophy.

It's also worth noting that no matter how flawed 1.0 may have been it did lay the groundwork for a lot of the neat stuff we see today. So there is indeed a good chance that the developers themselves may want to give current players a little taste of 1.0 in the form of the earrings. To my knowledge, we don't even know what the developers have planned for the seasonal event. They could have something special in store for us.

They did give everyone a taste, far more than that in fact, maybe it slipped by you playing 2.0 because it was everywhere. It's not everyone else's fault if you didn't recognize it.

Yes, you bought a physical object that came with a bonus. Now why would you get upset over something you were never told was limited and exclusive to that time, was later released? That example doesn't work either.

If they did say it was exclusive to the statues from that production run. To then go and release it again later, they would open themselves to a lawsuit. If Digital Extremes ever made Excalibur Prime available again they would get hit with a lawsuit and lose guaranteed. That was also 5 years ago.

That's only because you are personally making it out to be that way, over someones memento. Stop trying to undermine everyone that does value them and stuck around when you only want them for a collection of a fictional faction.

You're acting like games get shut down and relaunched all the time. They don't, they die and stay dead to languish as some holding companies failed asset. I guess you would rather have nothing if they almost sink themselves later because now they're untrustworthy too.

Having been in their shoes many years ago, I understand the sentiment of having a unique special item. Over time after leaving each those old game worlds behind I realised it really didn't matter. I can't take anything with me. So I just took pride in the sense of achievement of overcoming that challenge.

It's like climbing a mountain on foot while someone else takes a helicopter. We both get that same photo op - but I know how I earned mine. And that makes my photo all the more special and the achievement will stay with me for the rest of my life.

No one else will ever that have that opportunity to overcome that White Raven challenge again. The day FFXIV ends its run many years from now and the item and even character is gone, the memory of that achievement will be what remains...

Nobody is taking anything away. Nobody is preventing 1.0 players from taking pride in their accomplishments or support for 1.0.

Yet at some point, a line needs to be drawn. 1.0 was five years ago and FFXIV has had not one but two expansions since it launched for a second time. There's going to be another expansion next year.

As someone who actually looks back at 1.0 with a sense of awe and wonder it's actually pretty disheartening to see how some of the 1.0 players are acting within this thread. I offer my immense thanks to those 1.0 players who have been reasonable and are happy to grant those of us who started in ARR and beyond their approval in this endeavor.

I, for one, have been wanting certain items from 1.0 to be added to the game once more. I don't think everything should be unlocked and suddenly made available, though two pairs of earrings is a very minor thing in the grand scheme of things.

So I offer the players who are in favour of the earrings being added my immense gratitude. I'm actually going to make it a point to order a bottle of champagne to coincide with the seasonal event going live. Once I have a pair of the earrings for myself I shall make a toast in honour of those who have used their voice as a means of support.
