White Raven earring given out at The Rising event 2018

Anyway, I do have a question for the 1.0 users who have the earrings or are otherwise upset that the rest of us can now get them too --

Since the Rising event hasn't happened yet, what if the earrings are from a level 50 fight of Nael just as it was back in 1.0? Even though we have more classes now and different abilities, the fight remains the same. Would that be an acceptable compromise?

As a 1.0 player from open 1.0 beta til the very end, I respond. The lvl 50 fight was advertised as a limited time fight that was going away when 1.0 would go away. Therefore, all rewards from content that would no longer be available, would not be available also. We were encouraged to get as much done as we could before the game went away because that would be our only chance. We were encourage also, to record any cs's from that version of the game, as there would no longer be a way to watch them in the inns once it went away. It's the principal of giving one's word and that those who earned the items have no way of distinguishing theirs as the originals after the event goes into swing. I've worn mine proudly as glamour constantly since the glamour system was implemented as a source of nostalgia and pride of having cleared the ultimate fight of that time and I cherish those days, I made good memories, now this happens. They could've easily made new assets, a mount or glamour as a reward. I don't know how many of us are still playing anymore, so I speak w/o that knowledge.

It's entirely possible that the dev team who said "you only have a limited time to get these rewards before the server shuts down and the fight will be done" truly did believe it. They may not even be the same team that worked on ARR. So in a sense, they'd be right. So far as they knew, these things would never have been made available again.

Although it seems like right now, these earrings are a dividing issue, I believe the intent was to help bring the 1.0 and 2.0 players together in a way that would be meaningful to both.

By what they knew at the time, the rewards wouldn't be available again because the game as a whole wouldn't be available again. That's what they were referring to there. Trying to remake and re-release it as ARR was a longshot that most didn't think would actually happen. I'm just glad the higher-ups at SE were desperate enough about saving their biggest franchise that they were willing to bet some funding on a longshot.

That doesn't change the fact that it was SE's own employees that made those promises and the right thing to do by there loyal customers is to take responsibility and keep true to those promises. There is literally NO reason they couldn't have released something else. No one is going to B**** and moan because they couldn't get ugly boring earring instead of literally anything else. The possibilities are endless. Even i would have loved something else. Still though, it doesn't matter what argument anyone presents because it is a proven fact that SE made promises and SE broke them. That is not a good thing to show your customers as a company.

I don't see why not, as long as you are willing to PvP. The type of PvP and the success in it should determine what you should be able to obtain and not what season/year you did it.

But all anyone has to do to get the white ravens is do some event quest. How come they can't fight Nael? That's all you should need to do.

I'd also like to express my disappointment with the decision to add the exact item as a seasonal quest reward and strongly encourage the development team to tag this new event item with a "Replica".


While this isn't the first time we've seen a similar occurrence like this happen (Laurel Goobue, Chocobo Suit, Moogle Attire, Butler/Maids attire) this is the first occurrence of an exact item being added when previously stated it would not be obtainable again.


As others here in this thread have stated, my disappointment stems from statements being made as incentives or selling points for players to continue to support what the dev team and majority of the gaming population considered a dying and poorly executed game.

I fully understand this game is a business and such they should take advantage of where there is profit to be had, but laying out rewards and incentives for players to encourage continued payment only to go back on previous statements made, starts to become a slippery slope and really disheartens those who made a decision to support something with those promises believed to be true at the given time.


Following additional info since this thread already seems to be pretty polarizing on one side vs the other.

• At this time, all seasonal items obtained in ARR have been added to the cash shop as a purchasable item a year later. I believe it is very safe to assume this same pattern will occur with White Ravens if it is given as part of the Rising event- so in due time there is $$$ involved.
• I'm sure there are people who supported the game because they wanted to support the game at the time or found it enjoyable, (myself included). This however still does not change the fact that items were stated exclusive to the era, and were played off as something special for players from that era and portrayed as a little extra incentive for paying into poorly executed game. It becomes a matter of principle really more than anything else.

Finally, while this starts to breech off topic- I wanted to leave this here:

This was during ARR Beta Phase 3- This phases intent was to test character ports from 1.0 so shaders were not finalized, and look pretty pasty at best. Back then I would frequently see others wear this item. For us it was an accomplishment that we achieved together with friends in an era we'd never get to experience again, personally I wore it therefor afterwards as a symbol of that period, a relic long forgotten. I have one glamour I've kept universal since ARR launch, I wear it every single time I do a seasonal event, this too has the White Ravens included in it. Players sometime ask how to obtain it or what it's from and it normally starts a dialog.


I see mention of many people asking if Legacy players even wear this item, perhaps it's the server your located on doesn't have many players who have it anymore but we certainly do exist today!


Anyways, thank you for your time and consideration. While I'm displeased the decision was made to reinstate this particular item due to the nature of obtaining it- I would like to strongly suggest at least renaming it so the original still holds its meaning, symbolism, and legacy- no pun intended .

Exactly. They now have no good reason to let those limited mounts stay limited anymore. The same with the merchandise ones that are out of reach. If you give something out that was kinda from another game and also a reward for a hard fight, then you cant just turn around and let other stuff stay exclusive..
