I like how people are saying it doesn't matter, they're just earrings, no one notices them anyway.

Surely if they're not valuable for their looks, and they're not valuable for their stats, then the only value they have is as a rare memento for 1.0 players who did the fight?

Doesn't feel like anyone benefits from this, upsetting some old 1.0 players in exchange for something the overwhelming majority of 2.0 players didn't know existed, didn't care about and most likely will never use.

And yet there were enough players asking for these and similar items from 1.x to be added to the current game that SE is choosing to do it. Only SE knows which number is greater: the players asking for the item to be added or those still playing who had earned it back in 1.0. Considering the items are being added, I suspect the latter is the smaller group.

As someone else said earlier in the thread, people need to stop clinging to items as a source of validation and start getting their validation from what they accomplish.

Are the items a memento of what was achieved? Sure. My Lifebinder's Handmaiden in WoW reminds me that I was part of one of the only three raid teams on my little RP server to clear Heroic Dragon Soul before the MoP pre-launch patch was released.

That achievement can't be taken away from me. Someone else who outlevels and outgears the content can faceroll their way through all the Heroic Dragon Soul bosses tomorrow and get the mount, and it still doesn't change what I accomplished over 6 years ago. I'm happy they're able to get something they want to have. Their access to the mount now doesn't invalidate what I had already done.

Things don't mean anything in the long run. Things are too easily replaced or lost or destroyed. It's what you do that's important.

Congrats to those who killed Nael before Dalamud fell. No one can take that accomplishment away from you.

I'd actually say Blizz actually does things way more properly. They have AoTC and things like Legendary Cloak/Ring/Grove Warden/Violet Spellwing, feats for realm first, etc that have timestamps that they don't give away after the fact. Not that they're perfect, I'm sure some things have slipped through (Black Market). Some of this stuff is sold, but so were these earrings on my server at least.

You would have an achievement with a timestamp when you couldn't faceroll Dragon Soul, someone who does it now would have the date now, which you can differentiate easily by linking.

Sure, it doesn't matter since it's a game, etc. Some people just have sentimental value in items and stuff like that, even in RL.

I know that "Items obtained through events associated with the coming of the Seventh Umbral Era, such as over-aspected clusters" are not going to be available in ARR. But I was just wondering if the White Ravens obtained via Rivenroad (Hard) are considered in this category.

After all, the Imperial gear obtainable from Castrum Novum are going to be available in ARR, despite Castrum Novum being part of the Seventh Umbral Era plotline.

So I would love for a Rep to clarify (not user speculation, sorry) whether or not the White Ravens count as an unobtainable item in ARR. Just so I know if I should stop trying to force people to do the fight, and do other things peacefully.

Sorry for the delay while we got confirmation for you all -- the White Ravens will not be obtainable in A Realm Reborn.

They started giving out old seasonal event items almost immediately, so becoming unobtainable never really meant anything.

Quoting old posts like this isn't really fair. Those statements were true when SE said them. Just because the game and the situation changed some years later doesn't mean you were intentionally misled.

People will complain either way. The devs can't win here, so they may as well just ignore the complaining and do what they think is best.

That's generally why they are called exclusive. Also that none of them are to be trusted for anything they say. This stuff was literally bait to keep people subscribed back then.

All this is doing is fueling envy for everything else because they can't keep their word. It has nothing to do with whatever twisted version of entitlement someone wants to use. These things were stated they were never coming back.

Certainly enough to assume, but if they didn't specifically say the White Raven earrings will never be available again, particularly while there are other items that are still exclusive to legacy players, then they are not breaking any promises by making that item available again eventually.

You can be disappointed that they're being made available, but you can't say they promised to never do it. (Or certainly can't say that quote proves they promised to never do it.)

And I still think it's possible that the Stormblood items are the cheap giveaways, and they might make us work harder for the earrings.

I wouldn’t expect this—the event is a level 15 event. At most, we’re looking at a FATE or Minigame for that low of a level; not something challenging or that would require any sort of serious effort.
