Onion Doublet Still Obtainable in 4.0+?

June 2021 Edit: I don't think the Onion pieces are available anymore since the 5.4 Patch Notes states: "Certain items previously obtainable via retainer ventures have been removed."

May 2019 Edit: If any Onion Knights are browsing here looking for answers, I can confirm that the Onion Doublet/Gaskins/Pattens are still available via Quick Ventures. I got the Pattens in 2014, Gaskins in March 2019, and Doublet in May 2019. I've been neurotically spamming quick ventures with the max amount of retainers. Originally, I assumed that in order to increase my chances (i.e. decrease the pool of items obtainable), I had to keep most of my retainers undergeared and between lv10-50 so that they only brought back items from the Onion Gear era. However (and this is probably a coincidence), the Doublet and Pattens were both brought back by a lv70 BTN with i270 and 1161 gathering (cheap HQ lv70 gear with Gathering V materia). So, take that how you will. Good luck!

To the Onion Knights still on their quest, I recommend the following glamours in the meantime:

Blue Set:

Head: Onion Helm
Body: Woolen Doublet dyed blue
Legs: Linen Gaskins dyed brown
Feet: Walnut Pattens
Shield: Onion Shield (But I use the Company Escutcheon because of my FC crest)

Red Set:

Now onto my quest for the elusive Peregrine Helm...

I was under the impression that improving gear widens the number of items you can get, but doesn't exclude lower end items. That means that it's less likely to bring it back from a quick venture as you progress, but it should never be impossible.

Ah, good point. I was thinking the same thing. I've reset my retainers a couple times so that I could have them between level 10-50 with high ilvl for their given level so that they can still bring back rare items. I'm thinking that I should keep doing that. If I just lower their ilvls at level 70, I won't get the text that says "your retainer should be able to bring back rare items, etc". Back to the RNG drawing board...

I can confirm that the Onion gear is still available from the current pool of quick ventures. I recently went on a quick venture binge for a few months and received both the Onion Doublet and Onion Pattens. Good luck, is all I can say XD.

Also, the onion gear is not considered "Items Most Rare". You won't increase your chances of getting them by gaming the system to lower requirements for the rare item req. The Onion gear is grouped with the regular level 1-50 group of returns, and increasing/decreasing your level/gear has no impact on regular, non-Items Most Rare items.

That list is referring to items that can only be obtained via quick ventures, not necessarily the "Items Most Rare" you get a message for. All my retainers are level 70 with good gear, but since the onion gear is just part of the regular 1-50 set, there are no requirements for getting them except getting lucky. Only "rare" quick venture items are affected by your stats. There really is nothing you can do except keep sending your retainers out and hope for the best. Out of probably 3000+ ventures during my binge I only saw the Onion Doublet that one time, so just gotta keep whipping those retainers night and day.

You didn't ask for this information, but I feel the need to post it anyway...

The game DOES NOT let you put this gear into the Armoire.
The game DOES NOT let you put this gear into the Glamour Dresser**.

Very frustrating. Very irritating. I see no reason for this restriction.

**The last time I actually attempted to do this was right after they added the Glamour Dresser. It may have changed since then, and if so, please let me know so I can go put this crap in my dresser.

You can indeed put it in the glamour dresser. I guess they expanded the items allowed in there since I originally tried.

Yeah, that sucks =/ I have my other onion gear in my Armoury Chest, but I'm always a little paranoid that they'll disappear somehow. Luckily the Onion Helm can be put in the Armoire.

It's flagged as being able to be put in the glamour dresser. You can check just by looking at the icons on the item's tooltip in the game.

I had my retainers spam quick ventures a while back for a month. Had no luck getting any of the Onion pieces, I kinda gave up on it. Recently been thinking about trying to go for it again. So we can confirm retainer gear or levels do not matter for these pieces? I gave up cause I thought I needed better gear on my retainers.
