As I browse down thru our forum, there are 9787857 threads on the upcoming server merge. While there are some very good ideas/suggestions on how to do this most effectively, I am thoroughly unable to determine any consensus of how this is taking shape, and totally confused, due to the fragmentation.
I would, therefore, strongly urge a single, unified post, so as to eliminate this chaos.
I don't pretend to have a particular solution to meet everyone's needs/concerns, but it appears that the biggest fear in the upcoming merge is leaving friends behind. To address this specific concern it was suggested that a simple cross reference from existing servers to the new would be the most encompassing solution. While this doesn't guarantee 100% due to potential over-subscription, it seems logical to me the best starting point until someone demonstrates a better solution.
In addition to this, others would prefer time zone or language preference, in either case, most probably resulting in a split from current LS's or friends, consciously deviating from the cross reference approach.
While I don't consider myself to be qualified enough in sever populaltion #'s, or all-encompassing time zone or language delineations, I would offer something like this, as a strawman proposal to help lend a little orchestration to this issue.
- Current Server New Server Time Zone Language
- 1/2/3 ----------------- 1
- 4/5/6 ----------------- 2
- 7/8/9 ----------------- 3
- 10/11/12 ------------- 4
- 13/14/15 ------------- 5
- 16/17/18 ------------- 6
- xxxxxxxx ------------- 7 ----------- SEA ----- JP
- xxxxxxxx ------------- 8 ----------- EST
- xxxxxxxx ------------- 9 ----------- PST
- xxxxxxxx ------------- 10 ---------- EU ------ FR/DE
Again, this is only a strawman proposal that might serve as a nucleas to help us all make an informed decision. Time zones and language could easily be expanded to servers 1-6, as well, or servers could go 18 to all 10, but with a flavor for time zone or language.
If you guys think this has reasonable merit, please feel free to refine or expand on this, as appropriate. Otherwise, you can disregard, and we can all do our best to make an informed decision from the meriad of current posts.
