what about a red or blue icon besides the players name?

Would be easier to pick out what side people are on if the gear was colored a specific color since names are 2d and easily get jumbled together in a crowd.

Actually the colored icon replacing the ls crest would work pretty well along with the team colors.

It could also be expanded to free company combat. Your company could set up "home" and "away" uniform colors for the castle battle thing they showed off in the design docs.
