    How to give advice

Warning: I'm venting and this has been said before, but it bares repeating.

So on Friday I'm doing a simple Duty Finder dungeon run. I'm blm, not the best, but I'm learning my rotation. I can get Flare up pretty fast. I tend to use the same basic rotation on both single and group targets. Yes, I should work on that.

Anyways, things are going well and we're all running through it pretty quickly, when someone has a fit that I'm using Thunder 4 on a single target. They then proceed to say "let me school you on blm". This ticked me off beyond compare. A few runs down the line and they post the basic blm rotation.

I get it, I need to work on things, but I am getting better. If this this person had been watching, they'd have seen I was doing most of the rotation. Also, stuff happens, sometimes I lose my place in the rotation due to fight dynamics.

The point? If you want to give advice, ask the other play if they want it. This person's attitude threw my whole game off the rest of the run. I've been in parties where players asked others if they'd like a few tips. Those parties were some of the best I've been in. People start talking and sharing and we have great times. This is why I haven't left Final Fantasy.

Thanks for listening, hope some of you understand.

Can't sympathize. I don't understand the people with your mindset who think they are above criticism and that people need to sugarcoat every little word they say. You already admit you should work on that, so instead of getting upset take the good points and learn from the situation.

I don't understand people who think that they need to be the one to educate everyone else on everything. Just do your thing. Run with friends if you don't like joining a dungeon where there might be newer players that will annoy you if they hit a wrong button or don't use the exact proc you think they should. And above all, if you HAVE to give your opinion on something (like anyone even asked to hear your mouth), at least have the grace to not be a complete tool about it. Save it for Savage, if your raid leader will even put up with it.

So sick of the entitlement these days.

It's not entitlement, you're playing a MMO and doing a team based objective, if you're doing something wrong your team has every right to mention it, this is not a single player game and everything you do and don't do in a duty can affect others.

I'm also gonna ask you to tone down your reply, we're barely on the third post and you're already calling people tools and making statements like "like anyone even asked to hear your mouth".

Also please don't equal giving tips to being annoyed with new players, you don't have to be annoyed to give someone a tip.

The tone is in response to your tone, which was at best antagonistic. Don't complain that people respond in kind if you want to act like that. Maybe read the OP first - OP didn't say don't give criticism, OP requested people not be jerks about it.

Clearly that's the culture here, though.

As an aside, didn't you just say folks shouldn't sugarcoat things? Or did that only apply to people criticizing the OP?

I mean you could just, you know, read your tooltips. Most bellyaching would be avoided if people just learned to do this one simple trick.

.....Well, no one asked to hear your mouth either, but here we are listening to it. People wanting to help out newbies are the entitled ones now? If the guy was an arse about giving advice, I could understand it. But, if they were trying to be polite, there's no reasoning why the person can't take constructive criticism about it and try to improve upon themselves. We're taking the anecdotal evidence of the OP at large when the person in question may not have even been rude and they could possibly be just angrily venting (which they admitted) and blowing things out of proportion. I'm taking the OP with a grain of salt as miscommunications happen within the DF ALL OF THE TIME since tones can be misconstrued through text.

I'm sick of people who think they're above the consequences or criticism that comes with opening their mouth and having an opinion. It's this kind of mindset that tells players it's okay to not read your tooltips or at least try to improve on their basic rotations for the benefit of not just themselves, but the general community at large.

If you want to put in the least amount of effort, then run with friends and not the entire community. No one needs to carry anyone through content and it's entitled to expect other players to do as much on their time and money.

It's like no one even bothered to read the op. You win. I'm out.

I didn't insult the OP like you're trying to do to me. OP is requesting people for his permission before allowing them to give him tips, which is a mindset that counters the MMO aspect of this game. If he was playing a single player game he'd have every right to request others to not engage in backseat gaming, but there's no reason to get upset if someone gives a tip that can help clear the duty, which is why I said "instead of getting upset take the good points and learn from the situation".

Oh I did I just have no sympathy for anyone and don't care what they think of me. Fact is this is a team orientated game, if you're wasting my time I damn well have every right to make things right. If that means "schooling" someone, then so be it. Players are babied enough in this game and it's time people learned to be more accountable for their mistakes.
