Or even if the little girl has both sunseeker and moonkeeper traits that doesn't mean that both her and her sire were not culturally sunseekers. F'lhaminn is a great example of this--phenotypically she is Moonkeeper but culturally she is a Sunseeker. Nor has there been any indication that she wasn't born into her Sunseeker tribe. Honestly, I just think that it was an oversight like Catapult suggested and the story was already written out when someone else was like "Miqo kid models are really cute, lets make them Miqo'te."

From a 'real' standpoint, I'm figuring that they just didn't think it through. Just needed another minimal-effort emotional story because we can't just go to the beach and jump across platforms for the fun of it, can we? I'm sure they must have some sort of fill-in-the-blanks sheet for these things. There was a [boy] with [an adorable younger sister] who wanted to [become a hero] so he could [care for his family]...

But taking it from a lore standpoint, even though it initially confused me as well, I think it does make sense that he still uses the name Tia even if he's not technically "a tia". Simply enough, it would be his name from birth, unless his mother has a reason to borrow the naming pattern of some other race instead of her own. Even if, hypothetically, she's moved away from the tribe and living on her own, she's still passed the "R" tribe-name to her children as well.

More broadly, I've wondered about this before - although the Sunseeker naming pattern is very tied to their traditional tribe structure, we see very little of the actual tribes. We can take a guess based on where the tribe-name seems common, but it's not clear whether they still exist as a solid tribe or if they've fully integrated into the other societies.

I’ve always been under the impression that “civilized” miqos living in cities had no real tribes. There are older male sun seekers in the arcanist and monk storylines with tia names and I can’t think of a single case where we ever see a nunh outside of the U or M tribes, who still live traditionally. I might be remembering it wrong, but there used to be an NPC in 1.0 in each city who talked about the city races and I thought the Limsan one described the city state’s miqos as being more cosmopolitan. All that in mind, I never saw a problem with the characters or quest as presented.

Why does this confuse everyone? He said his family was without a father figure, not a leader. Remember how Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te operate, and how the U Tribe is and the M Tribe use to be, and the answer is sorta obvious.

They MAY have fixed this issue with the Tuesday update. I'm guessing most of the folks in this thread did the quest before the update? I did not - and when I did the quest the boy wanted to prove himself so that he could go on an adventurer's journey, not so that he could care for his family.

The stuff about "being without a father" was still there, but I didn't really see anything in the dialog that pointed toward him trying to become the breadwinner. His sister is upset because she doesn't want him to leave, true - but she's young enough that she might not understand (or, at least, not buy into) the philosophy that males need to leave when they come of age (especially when it applies to her precious big brother).

A Tia leaving the family and going on an adventurer's journey fits right in with the lore, I think.

    Sooooo many bread-winning sisters. @_@
"Boys are for pretty and girls do all of the work" is just basically an over simplified version of miqo'te culture...

I started the quest 10 seconds after it became available, it was always about going on an adventure, it never mentioned wanting to start a new tribe or wanting to become a Nuhn.

Chances are tribes aren't a thing in big cities, and when daddy is out of the picture it doens't mean son is forced to become a Nuhn when they are living in a city, so a Tia without a living father could be possible (or maybe the father is alive and went to buy milk and cigarettes).

Don't get me wrong, but it's responses similar to this that make me wonder how many people know what a Nunh actually is.

Nunh =/= Leader of the Tribe. A Nunh is simple the breeding Male, that's it. Basically a Nunh is just good in the sack, lol. But, seriously, that's all the terms mean, breeding male or non-breeding male. Granted since a Nunh is often considered the strongest at that time, they might be the leader. But, leading a tribe takes more than just the ability to make babies. I believe the current Nunh of the U tribe is not their leader, dont quote me though.

I kind of forgot the whole Nunh =/= leader thing, too.

The Tias from the U tribe seemed genuinely interested in assuming a leadership role in their tribe, while the one from the M tribe came across as just being extremely desperate for women.

Although, now that this topic has been brought up, it makes me wonder about T'kebbe, the miquitten in Idyllshire. The quest and other materia describe her parents as dying; and the indication is a mother and father not two mothers. Her father's status is left in question then. In order to sire a child he'd had to have been a nunh at some point, and T'kebbe is 8 or 9 at most. She describes no siblings, no family nothing. For a nunh to sire just one child seems rather odd, and it makes his duration as one seem rather short. There are many speculations about who he could've been. But unless we get more info, we are left to wonder.
