Roleplayers aren't deviants in any shape or form. Outdated stereotypes are outdated. Most people who RP are hardly distinguishable from your average player; they enjoy getting shiny new gear and enjoying the game for what it is as much as the next person, except they also like to immerse themselves in the game as much as possible. Acting is fun, and RP is basically just that.

But you strike me as the type of guy who would also make fun of your school's drama/theatre club, so maybe this is a wasted effort..

So they go and subject people to their bad "acting" through text. They choose to "act" in text and from a character in a game because they can't act in real life.

I would say RPer's in the realm of acting are lower than clowns/mimes.

You can't get nitpicky over the spelling of theater. Both are used, even within the U.S.

It's like canceling with one L versus cancellation with the two Ls.

Anyhew, I get the feeling more you want to provoke people into action for kicks and giggles more than you want to genuinely understand and come to an amicable resolution about this.

'Roleplayers' as a whole? No. They're not terrible, wierd deviants at all. They are a subculture. And like any other subculture, the few bad/wierd/ect spoil it for everyone. You can't really say deviant behavior does not exist in the community, because it does. All over the place.

While some people are perfectly acceptable/tolerant, others aren't, or are going to hate-blast the entire culture as a whole for their bad encounter with a few. Can't really do anything about that, aside from don't shove your culture down someone elses throat. There's plenty of sub cultures I would not want to see thrown into my face on a regular basis.

I don't like /say rp. I can't personally do it, because I find it rude. I don't want to spam the rest of the population currently in a location with my in character conversation. And if I need to, I keep my conversation mild and short winded, or ask if we can move. I prefer to keep my roleplaying within the roleplaying friendly linkshell that I have, unless I'm taking part in an event that's out of the way, as to not offend.

Edit: Derp, I misread the last part. I didn't see you were originally striking out at Brigandier. However! I would like to touch on something about the whole idea some people do have that 'we're just acting/whatever'. (and something on Brigandiers post after mine) If they wanted to see a play, they'd go to the proper places to see one. I don't think it's fair to the general server community to force them to see a play they didn't ask to see. Now, if you want to advertise a specific roleplay-friendly event somewhere that's not smack dab in the middle of Ul'dah (for example, in front of the Ul'dah Aetheryte Plaza) or some other heavily populated area, and you get heavy backlash, then sure, I can understand getting upset.

could maybe see about trying out a pvp server something like wow where ur only safe in ur town...

I don't see him making a PVP server mainly because it prob wouldnt work to well with the game itselfs but all we can do is wait and see what happens.

I think the trickiest thing when it comes to designating a new server for role play specifically as it is now is getting the word out to other languages.

Will the new server be a roleplay server or will the new server be the new Besaid? These are two different things as much as we might not like to think they are.

From my limited understanding, when the fan sites did announce Besaid as the unofficial Role Playing server they didn't do so in any other language other than English. I also see /shouts in Japanese from time to time on Besaid as well as other languages. I've personally partied with some French speaking people in the early morning hours. There currently is a movement in tandem that is trying to get the current servers to coordinate onto the numbered servers via an alphanumeric relation i.e. 8esaid = Besaid.

This is why I'm also for some kind of official suggestion from SE. This will give the RP community another chance at growing their userbase as well as giving non English role players a chance to pick a server based on play style not necessarily current linkshell associations or language.

Another thing to take into account is Version 2.0 servers will likely include yet another (more permanent) server migration. Yoshida has mentioned making server designations based on language in interviews as well and has explained the pros and cons. Whatever is chosen today may or may not be permanent come V 2.0
