In EQ2, Antonia Bayle is the designated RP server. It has and always is the most popular server, and at one time was always the leader for Server-wide Firsts for raid content...which, by the way, among those guilds that was doing it was a huge RP guild. Currently, most requests for transfers go to AB. Unfortunately, most of the raid guilds have toppled in the server, so there's only a handful of guilds, and while they're close to beating everything, the smaller servers with the hard core raid guilds are in the lead.

I don't know how anyone got the idea a RP server is exclusively RP-Only and the like, considering that there is no other game out there where people think this. RPers are harmless, anyways, as long as they don't RP in public chats. We have our own channels and guilds, so the only time you'd see us would be in the game's natural social scenes.

But that's besides the point-- the fight between RPers and Non-RPers will always be there, especially in a game where there's cat-girls. But in the end, we're all playing a fantasy game, pretending we're cute little mages and warriors with big swords, so obviously the RPer Virus is widespread.

Also, if you're not in a guild with some of those friends, you might as well just say goodbye, unless if server names are announced. Guilds will stick together (for the most part), and will do a transfer to the same server as they individually vote on. There may be server-wide discussions on forums, but that's a small fraction. There's public channel and other word-of-mouth methods in game, and that may be what you need in order to see where the rest of your server is going on.

There, that solves the "My non-RP friends" issue, for the most part.

...In addition, everyone else is considering the "Worlds 1,10, 5 and 7 will be most popular" discussion, as well. Deciding that your picking an uncommon number could end up being...common thought.

If they at least tag a server "RP" or "RP friendly" or whatever, they at least give people the choice to either congregate together, or give those hating it with such vigor chance to avoid all us RP "pod people" altogether. I don't know what draws such ire in so many about it, frankly i'm not dr. phil so i don't care.

the game has plenty of time sinks, and if an RP'er decides to add RP as one for their personal gameplay, then you should smile, nod, and just cross the street so you don't get their germs. I happen to RP, i also do endgame, i also craft. So should the people who exclusively like crafting shun me because i do endgame? should the guys i do endgame with yell about my "crafting cooties" if they hate crafting? that's kind of how it sounds when people who don't want to rp, and who dislike it, just attack it endlessly.

And yes, the argument of flooding a local chat with it does bear weight, right up until i go into ul'dah and see all kinds of absolute drivel in say and shouts from people, and YES that even includes at times...people RP'ing, but it's not not the end of the world to me...i just have to walk or craft out of range. I have and will always take the "live and let live" view, but sadly not alot of others will, they need to flex whatever fourm e-peen or whatever, or troll someone who is in essence trying to be semi-creative in thier time. so, if i'm rp'ing in say, and you get irritated, feel free, go ahead..because yes i can see the point. but i have tried not to bother others by doing such as of late, so i'll continue to RP...and if the community will have me, i'll go where they go.

Late to the thread, only read the first page but I wanted to add in my thoughts:

I'm with Aysun on this, and several people in my linkshell are as well. Besaid is our server, not the RPC. We want to stay with our home server and stay with our RP and non-RP friends. If it came to it and a group of RPers diverged away from Besaid, we would likely just stay with Besaid anyway.

I thought something on the numbers. But a lot of folks just pick the first it second thing they see, because it's the easy thing to do.

The wards pre- and post- labeling is an excellent example of this. People just jump into the first ward on the list.

When 1 overflows, 2 gets hit next.
A good chunk of people who think they can beat the odds, choose the last server.

I think in this case, with SE suggesting 10 as the European server, it throws a wrench in things. Besaid also being a town from the 10th FF.

Folks are going to choose 7, the way they name themselves Cloud Strife and all many of Sephiroth. It seems to be many people's favorite FF.

And others can't be accounted for, as they will choose a number that means something to them. Such as a character's nameday is *most* likely tk reflect the player's real birthday or the generic, the first day of the first month.

I will add my vote to a rp server even if it is just an unofficial one. It is why I chose Besaid because it had been voted to be the unofficial server. I think the method SE chose was a poor one and all it is going to do is anger more people. Personally, I am not happy with the method they chose.

Bawwww more. I'm not trying to cater to any of you RPers because I consider the whole lot deviants, I was just driving home the point that if it weren't for your "extreme /say RPers" I wouldn't even know you exist.

I would not pick an RP server for the roleplay. In my experience, the general populations on these servers are more friendly and older. So long as you are careful of half of the RPers. Most of them make the sane and content-driven light/mid rper's look like crap... And then complain when you're not 100% rp walking and 'in character' every minute of your game life. I wanna play the game and be good at it. Not sit in a bar watching bad rp fights while wearing pretty gear and pretending I'm good at it. Sorry, but I want to play the game and make 'real' friends (as real as online friends get, anyways), not make friends with some guys alter-ego.

Not even going to get into the shamefully abundant fetish and erp issues, which are what MANY of the non-rpers see or think when they think 'roleplayer'.

This post sums up how I feel about the RP issue in general. I don't have any problem with RP as long as you keep it out of /say (in spam form, a little here and there doesn't push my buttons) and keep the ERP way the heck away from main hubs. If people RP with restraint, they're likely to get restraint back. If you shove it in people's faces, well you're going to get what you get.

Roleplayers aren't deviants in any shape or form. Outdated stereotypes are outdated. Most people who RP are hardly distinguishable from your average player; they enjoy getting shiny new gear and enjoying the game for what it is as much as the next person, except they also like to immerse themselves in the game as much as possible. Acting is fun, and RP is basically just that.

But you strike me as the type of guy who would also make fun of your school's drama/theatre club, so maybe this is a wasted effort..
