Because games are designed that way. You need maximum DPS in order to survive (raid enrages), you need DPS to get virtually anything done in the open world, you even need DPS in PvP.

Damage done is the driving engine of the entire RPG gaming world. You can't even experience story w/o facerolling a ton of boring quest mobs.

So, don't blame the players for finding support roles "meh" to play, esp when said support roles are actually penalized by inherently lower DPS compared to the other roles in non instanced content.

    The issue with hard content.

The thing is, people want it, but it's really easy for the game to be made too hard for players. not because the players are bad, but because this game is a fusion of action and mmo gameplay, and can rely a high level of precision.

Like in HW, the game was a lot harder. DPS classes needed to juggle more timers, more buffs, and more dots, and all jobs had more actions per minute than they do now. The problem with that though is it led to players getting overwhelmed, and I think a lot of the raid difficulties then were due to the big step up in rotational difficulty as much as bad testing.

SE tried at first to walk it back slowly, but in the end made creator a lot easier to compensate, and then in SB just really walked back a lot of the jobs complexity. And even now, people complain its hard to accomplish a lot of content, either in pickup groups and in statics.

The game's at a decent equillibrium where it has hard content that still is attainable for players; if it gets much harder, it's going to lead to a frustrating experience for everyone. That ends up in a lot less players doing hard content overall. Like Rath at the moment is hard enough in a trad party to start slowing down; its taking longer to find raid finder parties and has less party finder adverts, with a sizable amount being cheese comps.

When i usually talk about stuff like this, its more two things:

    1. the game is not super-easy
    2. It's not good if it gets sizably harder.

I believe that would entirely depend on what you compare the game to.
If you compare it to some real life activity like playing a musical instrument, you will realize why we call it a "game" and how easy it actually is.

Gonna chime in as a disabled person who has a lot free time. This is a total waste of my life even if the only other thing I had to do was watching boring daytime TV. In the times where I'm not doing housework or going to myriad appointments, I'd rather be doing anything else than this trash. I'd like to hope others feel the same.

And I'm inclined to agree that this game has a very serious problem with design when so many people have so many problems with lag kills. I've never seen anything like it in any other mmo. The repeated complaints of issues with lag causing deaths in battle are unique to this game, and not asking for "content to be easier" or "entitlement".

The design of some bosses makes no sense given that SE can't manage to keep their servers balanced.
It certainly does not help that Square-Enix is top cheap to have data centers for at least both coasts of the United States. Like every other MMO.

Omg support classes are amazing ! The ability to “refresh” is one of the most valuable ability in game from progression to hardcore contest, BRDs have a a set of skills that improves everybody performance and dmg also such as Foe requiem and the +2% crit hit for everybody during all fight. MCH also got few skills that are pretty useful.
The dmg available may be lower than other DPS in overall but support classes can still go over 6k DPS with a BIS at endgame, who say “meh” to support roles doesn’t understand nothing about thus game lol

I'm happy for there to be all types of content for all types of players, but as a casual, mostly solo, player who prefers open-world to instanced content, I will always advocate for content that suits my tastes, time constraints, and skill level (not that this is a static thing, but I'll never be up there with the PVP lords or Savage raiders). I'm hardly going to ask Square to direct all of their focus towards producing content that I have no interest in, am I?

Way to miss the actual point he was making.

I agree though, I always loved support heavy roles that go further than pure ego DPS.
Playing a Shadow Priest, people actually argued about who gets me into their group because they all wanted my mana regen, man fond memories of ancient times.
