This story was great. Anything having to do with Estinien and heavensward is always appreciated.

I was also very excited to read more about what kind of place Sohr Khai is. It is my favorite dungeon in the game and I hope we get to revisit it in the future.

I figured that's why Estinien was talking to it, sometimes, lol. A small flicker of the Azure Dragoon that was, a small flicker of the Nidhogg that was, still as mutually entwined as when they were both living to exact vengeance for a murdered loved one.

You're right, it's been a while so I'd almost forgotten he spoke to the lance and called it Nidhogg! Glad to see they acknowledged that as well. I do hope we see more of Estinien and learn what path he chooses to follow now that the Nidhogg chapter of his life has been resolved.
Incidentally, this is making me more excited for the Estinien figure coming out in the winter, which I have on preorder!

It sets me thinking about Estinien, because of course he doesn't talk about his emotions much but I wonder whether he realised the parallels between himself and Nidhogg as we learned the truth throughout our quest, or only when he was directly in contact with Nidhogg's soul. Either way it seems such an interesting thing that, from his starting point of wanting venegeance, it's his empathy that's ultimately the key to the resolution.

He talks about it in the Lvl 70 DRG quest.

Indeed, it seems advanced apologies are in order because I will shamelessly necro this thread. I have been an avid Estinien fan since March 2012 and this latest edition of the Tales From the Storm was simply brilliant.

Full disclosure...

Ever since his character (quite literally) jumped into our lives during the Dragoon jobclass questline back in 1.0, he was an instant hit. He's been on my top ten favourite NPC list since then and an interesting fact to note is that (for a while) he was responsible for making the first generation Dragoon armour arguably the most popular AF set to wear in town on the Excalibur server.

Yes indeed, I'm extremely glad the Devs fleshed out his tale and gave it substance; plus all the great comments on this thread are greatly appreciated. His innate ability to fiercely endure his physical and psychological scars, his heartwarming bromance with Aymeric, his older brother disposition towards Alphinaud and his gradual respect (and something more?) for Ysayle are just a few of the several qualities I personally like about the chap.

Speaking of which, I was very very surprised just now to find quite a few fan artwork relating to this "Ysayle x Estinien" speculation... never really thought about it that way and found it interesting that this had developed into a speculative ship already sailing.

I had to go back and look for this (tongue-in-cheek) quote because I didn't think I'd do it justice, and it turned exactly one year old yesterday.

Headcanon:
Lucia is in love with Aymeric but he's oblivious to it because he's in love with Estinien but he's oblivious to it because his heart had only room for vengeance aside from one brief window whereby it was stolen by a thrice-damned ice princess and [dramatic shouting] now he'll never love again!

It wasn't until after I said it that I realized how many people would be like, "EXACTLY!" Apparently the idea that passionate bickering became passionate other things off-screen while we were otherwise occupied is quite popular, lol.

Exactly Moose, EXACTLY! It is amazing how that headcanon for this love chain actually managed to fulfill itself, especially with Estinien dismantling the end point, lol. You'll also notice my hint above regarding the nuances of the "bromance" between him and Aymeric... With Aymeric being the lord commander of the Temple Knights PLUS the main lord of the House of Lords, he really doesn't have the time for romance; imo, I think Aymeric may be crushing on the WoL is why he hasn't been paying attention to Lucia. XD

However, when it comes to the FFXIV NPCs feelings and whatnot, it's open for interpretation so headcanons can pretty much be canon lol

I'm generally in favour of leaving things vague when it comes to romance. Some parts of the 'shipping' community can be a little unhinged and often use the pairings they fawn over to push a particular agenda, or they just completely rewrite a character's personality in order to justify bizarre relationships. I'm also not really a fan of characters being considered completely oblivious to people fawning over them. I typically take it as them simply not being interested in that particular person.
