Yeah as someone said you might want to go pld at first
Its the training wheels tank and can get you used to handling aggro

That said however even that is rough early on as most players will outgear you. Meaning you might need to flash like a pervert to keep hate
Dont feel bad if people rip hate though

You CAN jump right into war. However you need to be sure you pop cooldowns regularly
War depends on them a lot more than the other tanks and cant get away eith ignoring them like they can
And youll have to adapt to using overpower
But if you can handle those its the best tank for killing something lol

All THAT said if youre just tired of cure and not healing grind scholar
It can usually rely on eos and its ogcf heals alone at end game
Just learn eos skills and put her on obay

    Hi Boo-boo!

Yeah, tanking can be intimidating. If I may make a small suggestion, go gladiator/paladin first.

It's more beginner friendly and teaches you to basics of tanking. Once you understand the concepts, it's an easy jump to warrior.

I would save dark knight for last. The job has a few issues which make it a more challenging tank, especially when going into content where you don't have all of its abilities enabled.

I made a signature about tanking on a gladiator/paladin which really keeps tanking simple. The only things I don't go into is positioning. Always keep the boss facing away from the rest of your party if you can. The easiest way to do this is to run through the boss or mobs to the opposite side. Oh, and watch for AoE stuff but you know that already.

Hi again, I found a good guide for you! Hope it helps! Happy tanking!

I think war would be a good starter tank only because their aoe does strong dmg while keeping hate for large group of trash. I don't know how good flash is before you get tank stance though.

As sHC tank main for 4 years, I agree with Dirwen here. Due to changes to tanks in 4.0, on defensive standpoint GLD and MRD are around equal. MRD AoE aggro gen, Overpower, is a cone but it's quite large one AND it's buffable with Berserk (More damage = more aggro. Flash is magic "damage" so it's not buffed by Fight or Flight). The so dreaded cone is not that bad really and you'll get used to it really quickly.

    Hold enemies.
    Face enemies away.
Don't stand in AOES bit don't needlessly move mobs either.
That is indeed the basics - and it is even sufficient for most dungeons in the game.
