For tanks and healers, I wait for ~5 mins because shit happens, and after that I just boot. They can just easily find a new queue and jump right in.

For DPS since we can easily run dungeons w/ 1 DPS short, I just wait a little longer because they can't just randomly queue up to enter another dungeon run again.

If I am Party Leader I give 3-5 mins, then boot. Unless the person was terrible (either player or person) then auto boot from me.

I'm generally not opinionated enough to care WHY you disconnected. If you're gone for more than a few minutes though, you'll get replaced. We all want to keep moving after all.

Give some time to come back. For some, it may take a restart. For lower level content it's even less important to dismiss, unless it's someone we can't get along without.

Don't be like my party in Ridorana recently, though, where 7 people were together and their friend my co-healer was "coming back" for nearly the entirety of Belias through Construct and they refused the dismiss. Forcing me to solo heal by denying me the ability to get another healer.

Usually when someone D/C's, my characters jump and emote spam activates until they come back, or we try to clear as much as we can. After a certain amount of time, you'll probably get kicked, but if you said in chat that you will brb, I would be happy to wait.

Five minutes is about enough. Any longer and it's not worth your time to stay in the dungeon yourself. I'd rather eat the 30 minutes crafting than waiting around for some random guy promising his miqote lady friend will be back "soon". It's happened before, and no doubt will happen again.

I usually wait 5 minutes if I'm party lead. I'm on ps4 so I know how much of a pain it can be. The usual steps I have to take:

    1) turn off the ps4
    2) go downstairs and reset the router if it was internet going out that caused the dc
    3) once my router has decides to boot up and ps4 recognizes that internet is back: put in my passwords (thank god for keyboards)
    4) wait
    5) wait some more until I can finally log into my character
    6) and finally wait until my loading screen is finished to apologize

You're playing with controller + keyboard, right? The backwards typing could still be because of your controller. It sounds like its directional button was sticking. That would cause all the symptoms you mentioned: Unintended left/right movement changed your loot choice. Unintended up/down and left/right movement caused your targeting to keep switching around. Unintended left movement while the chat box had focus as you were typing kept moving the cursor back to the beginning of the line so each character typed showed up in front of the previous ones rather than after, resulting in that backwards text.

The only bizarre thing is the tank thinking your chat being screwed up by it is a sign that everything's working fine.

But to your topic question, I do much the same as most of the commenters here. Even if nobody knew what was happening, I'd wait a few minutes to see if you came back. Since you mentioned having technical problems before the disconnect, I'd have been in favor of waiting a bit longer than normal, and would have voted against a kick if I were in the party when it came up. (Of course, that's assuming it came up rather quickly, as your post seems to suggest. Even for genuine technical problems, I'm not waiting forever if you're playing a tank/healer that we can't finish the run without.) If you're DPS, or an extra tank/healer we don't actually need to progress, then we'll continue without you and you have until we finish the run to get back.

Just keep going as though they are still there. I'm under the belief that if someone DC's because of connectivity/tech issues, they will come back as soon as their PC/console reboots. That should really be 90 seconds or so. If it's a dungeon and we're just on trash, typically one can just baby-pull the mobs and clear up to the boss room waiting for them to come back.

If someone doesn't come back before reaching the boss room, then "kick or wait?" is asked when we get there unless the DC'd player is a DPS, or one of the DPS players is a Summoner, by which we may just start the boss and see if we can get through it. If the tank DC's, the healer can tank some bosses. If the healer DC's and there is still a tank with useful healing (eg Paladin), we may still see if it can be done.

In 8 or 24-player content, if you DC before getting pass the first boss, most players would rather kick an offline player and then just proceed without waiting for a replacement.

My main reason for asking is because of a "very" recent incident I was in.

I queued for Sirensong Sea with a friend of mine, I wanted to see if I could get the Healer Gloves for a glam. Anyway the run was fine, nothing was really said besides me noticing we were all 70, no one leveling. Everything was great up until the end of the first boss. As i went to greed for the loot, I heard an odd sound from my controller, and for whatever reason my cursor made me pass on one piece of loot, no big it was a ring. But after that i noticed my cursor was going crazy, and it kept switching between me and my fairie rapidly. I caught up to the party and kept them alive, but asked them to stop as my targeting was acting up. Well, I notify my friend to let them now my controller is having an issue and I am trying to get back; at this point I got stuck in the PS main menu. He said that they booted me. Now I can understand being booted but he showed me images of what they said. Apparently, my message came through 100% backwards, my friend then tried to respond that my keyboard might be acting up to. Well the tank said "typing backwards, how original", commented that my system seems to be fine enough to type backwards, and then the other DPS said I must be smoking pot. Yeah cause that excuse is original too.

Now I have no issue with being kicked, it is understandable. My issue is why would you attack me when you don't even know me. What kind of a person are you to do that? A very insecure one, I think.

So yeah how do the rest of you react to a player DCing?
I firstly check to see if anyone in group is a lalafell, then ask if anyone else wants them as I need to level my CUL skill while waiting for DCee to return
5mins and lalafell is done, usually enough time for the player to return, otherwise a kick
