So What Do You Do When Someone DCs?

So I'm curious how some of you react when a player in your instance DCs. Most of the time you don't know the reason, but I'm curious what do you do?

My main reason for asking is because of a "very" recent incident I was in.

I queued for Sirensong Sea with a friend of mine, I wanted to see if I could get the Healer Gloves for a glam. Anyway the run was fine, nothing was really said besides me noticing we were all 70, no one leveling. Everything was great up until the end of the first boss. As i went to greed for the loot, I heard an odd sound from my controller, and for whatever reason my cursor made me pass on one piece of loot, no big it was a ring. But after that i noticed my cursor was going crazy, and it kept switching between me and my fairie rapidly. I caught up to the party and kept them alive, but asked them to stop as my targeting was acting up. Well, I notify my friend to let them now my controller is having an issue and I am trying to get back; at this point I got stuck in the PS main menu. He said that they booted me. Now I can understand being booted but he showed me images of what they said. Apparently, my message came through 100% backwards, my friend then tried to respond that my keyboard might be acting up to. Well the tank said "typing backwards, how original", commented that my system seems to be fine enough to type backwards, and then the other DPS said I must be smoking pot. Yeah cause that excuse is original too.

Now I have no issue with being kicked, it is understandable. My issue is why would you attack me when you don't even know me. What kind of a person are you to do that? A very insecure one, I think.

So yeah how do the rest of you react to a player DCing?

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

If a party member DC i wait a couple minutes to give them time to get back on. After that couple minutes i would likely proceed to kick to replace you.

I give them roughly 5 minutes to get back in, if not a little longer. If I'm on a job that has a heal, will spam heals on them. Not sure if it actually works, but seems like things that effect them make the game register that they've DC'd faster than if I just sat there waiting for them. For issues like you have, I just take the person at face value; if they say they have hardware acting up, I believe them, especially if things were looking a little dicey beforehand (like HP dropping lower than what they'd normally done, reactions are late when they were fine before, this kind of stuff).

Some people are just really immature (not even limited to this game) and jump to really illogical assumptions.

If you’re a job that I can continue the run just fine without then I will continue to the end of the run without you if no-one else has any complaints, otherwise I think at least five minutes is a fair enough amount of time to wait.

Roughly 5 minutes. As that is the minimum amount of time it takes for them to come back after getting disconnected or game crashing on PS4. If they are a tank or healer I give them a little bit more time.

I usually wait for 5 minutes. If chat is good then even longer

In darkness, in cold, in the midst of winter where nothing walks the world but death and fear let the brave rejoice: I call the light.
Out of darkness, light. Ouf of silence, song. Ouf of the sun´s death, the birth of each year. Out of cold, fire. Out of death, life. Out of fear, courage to see the day. (Elizabeth Moon - The Deed of Paksenarrion)

Generally give them a few minutes to come back, if possible to go on without them, push slightly slower to the next boss and if they're still gone by the time the group reaches the boss then start considering the kick.

I had an issue once where my typing wasn't backwards, but rather it was garbled over other people's text in the chat. A quick restart fixed it.

I live in an area that has a lot of frequent and severe storms, so there are times when I will disconnect suddenly, but I can usually come back within 3-5 minutes. If the group has booted me, no big deal. But if it happens to another player, I will wait for them -- again, no big deal.

"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
    "We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

Wait a bit (5min) then boot. If it's a 90k to start menu they usually get back on within 2 minutes. If they were lagging throughout the run (red dc symbol) and warping around or if they say something like "restarting" I might wait longer.
