I came across Hellsclaw



I started fighting him alone and got him to around half health, before two other players joined in.
I ended up dying due to some high damage direct hit, and they finished it off.

I was playing as a level 55 Monk and received Tomes for my participation.

Old news for most players I know, but it was a first time for me

I tried poking that thing on solo lvl 60 BLM and then as a lvl 70 hoping that the higher gear discrepancy would work. That goddamn double stun...screw Hellsclaw. >_>;

Trying to solo that thing as a class that doesn't have both physical and magical damage can be rather unpleasant even if you're level 70, as it'll spam its stun endlessly until you remove its magical/physical stoneskin plus you'll be hurting yourself all the while if you don't.

That and Maahes are probably the only ARR A ranks that can be excessively annoying if you don't know what you're getting yourself into.

For soloing Hellsclaw just wait a moment until the reflecting dmg buff expires. For soloing Maahes I find bard the most convenient job (silence its petrification aoe, self cleanse paralysis with warden's paen). All of the ARR rank A should be quite fast to solo at lv70 if you know their attacks. I think all of the HW rank A can be solo'd too but you might need to use certain jobs for some of them and have chocobo companion. The goblin in hinterlands needs you doing high dps to kill before its stacking dmg buff becomes too strong.
