Just like the title says. From what im reading in posts it seems like all these people who will "miss" signing up of server change day don't even know its coming. I was always under the impression that half the people here doesn't play yet they know the server change is coming. I think most people and their friends will get to coordinate with each other.

Which most people check lol, so anyone who keeps up with FFXIV knows the merge/transfer is coming and what to do, they also know if they're not playing or went inactive they won't get to pick, so that way they can coordinate through their respective means of communication even if they can't use the forums.

Have you not read the many posts with large text and colours and bolding clearly telling you that the community will be shattered upon the rocks at the foot of the cliff of despair by Square Enix (a.k.a The Dark Army of Sadness), whose sole purpose in life is to isolate people from their groups of friends and ensure they lead a solitary existence, friendless and waiting for death.

It's announced like 2 months before the deadline. If you don't even check Lodestone, forums, or any XIV related website between now and the merge (remember that 1.21 is coming), then yeah you'll miss out the merger, but you will probably don't care either...

Any former player who still have a small interest in XIV will check out what's going on when 1.21 will be out.

This is a very good idea actually. SE should consider sending everyone with an "active" (ie. paying) account a heads up.

Sounds more like blackmailing that informing players to me. And it will be harder for SE to make it sounds differently because at the end of the day, it's either pay us $9.99, either you get assigned to a random world. (hey you could be one of the ~10% winners who will end up on the world they wanted!)

Edit for above: if you are a paying customer, you probably log on in-game. We will get most likely spammed with message of the day / system message to warn us...

How are they doing this anyway ? through the character screen in game or via the SE account page ?

I have a linkshell with 120 friends who haven't played since beta. I don't have any of their contact information. If I don't get to play with all 120 of my linkshell members who I haven't spoken to with since the beta because I have no way of contacting them, I will quit. YOU CANNOT REPLICATE THE KIND OF FRIENDSHIP I HAVE WITH MY 120 NON ACTIVE FFXIV FRIENDS! THE SERVER MERGE WAS NOT DESIGNED FOR PEOPLE WITH LINKSHELLS! YOSHIDA HATES LINKSHELL PEOPLE!
