I must've inadvertently insulted Rathalos' mother or something, because he focuses on me for about four or five attacks in a row when he's after me. Stop chasing me with that poison swipe, you ass.
That being said, while Rathalos is an interesting fight and something different from the usual EX fare, I think it's a bit overly punishing to end the fight on three deaths when Healers/DPS basically die in one hit (or get stunned and then probably die to a follow-up hit) if they get touched even once.
Monster Hunter Cart system.
Q: How does it work?
A: Carting is when you die in a quest, as the felynes cart you back to base camp. You are allowed 3 deaths per quest with you failing the quest on the 3rd death. If you're doing multiplayer, these deaths are also shared between the party so you are only allowed 3 deaths between you and your party altogether.
It's not punishing by any means. It's literally the Monster hunter system. I can understand that yes it seems like it's punishing, but they're basing the content right out of monster hunter in terms of play style and how the hunts look and feel ingame.

It's literally the true old video game 3 life system in XIV. xD good old capcom.
:0c i can say easily that i am the most casual of players, and am generally not good at fighting, but as it seems even hardcore long-time players in my fc have trouble with rathalos ex?
it seems to be quite the learning curve and boring or hostile to certain classes,, i think it would've been better if they had implemented the dodge mechanic from monster hunter world as someone said earlier, n slash the healing to some 30% effectiveness as someone else (or maybe the same person? it was several pages ago) said. ffxiv characters aren't exactly speedy n rathalos' being able to hit characters way out of the way is a killer for sure. smth like that would also probably make the fight more interesting for healers also...
or like someone else had said it would be nice if you could trade upwards, turning in normal scales for ex scales. even at a pretty high price like 50 for one, i'm sure that there would be plenty of players who aren't great at ffxiv and/or mhw who would gladly grind rathalos normal to acquire the correct amount of scales for whatever they wish to get. plus something like that still functions as motivation to get better at the ex fight so you could nab ex scales easier,,
I absolutely love this fight, the only 2 things I don't like are healers that demand I save Erase for when they get hit by the poison charge (I use it to help out healers on burn stacks) and those GODDAMN ROCKS on the side of the arena xD Because of my camera settings they have gotten me killed a few times... Gonna try with different camera settings tomorrow!
i got my mount yesterday after 50 fights. I actually did it after opening this thread, idk how :3
It was like most of the ex primals, you get the gist of it after 5-6 downs most. It was actually fun and it makes you on edge all the time because you can get hit.
Alright, i killed it.
Finally found a group who knew what they were doing and didn't demand me to already have Duty Complete.
Downed him first try with that party.
Then did it three more times while we were at it.
I cleared it but trying to farm it is being challenging. I tried yesterday, but we wiped several times including at 1% when he did his enrage twice. I may have to get my item level up more on RDM. Currently at 359 but it just seems there wasnt enough dps. Otherwise fun fight.
Hope one day I can get the mount.
I mean it is an extreme fight that brings some use for Esuna, Erase, and Wardan's Paeon.
Except healers are just an esuna bot in the last phase, and I hate that skill more than ever now.
