    Fear of Insects

    Hey

I've been playing the game since yesterday and I really like it a lot.

However, I do have a pretty severe case of a phobia of insects. Unfortunately, I have already come across several wasps or other not so beautiful creatures. Now, I learned that they will also be part of some dungeons, which certainly makes me more than uncomfortable.

So here's the question: Is there a way to avoid them somehow? (Even knowing about which dungeons or regions I should better bypass would be of help)

Sorry for that weird problem of mine...

I hope anybody can help me.

    Thanks a lot already. :3

I have an "issue" with scorpions. I get around it by zooming the camera all the way out to make them as small as possible.
Muting the sound also dampens the scare effect if needed.

Just remember though, no matter how creepy they look just remind yourself they are programs in a video game. Destroy them with your video game skills, and show them who's boss.

The only advice I can really give is to check out some of the dungeon guides on the web that contain enemy lists, as trying to find every area is going to be tricky as insects are a common enemy in several places, especially low-level areas.

Although, you could use a ranged character, since you can attack without the camera facing the enemies, or party up with a tank class to keep them out of melee range while you shoot/cast at them.

Being legitimately afraid of some mobs sounds like a level immersion I'm missing out on.
Fear is very lacking from this game.

I'm sorry you may not like these creatures, but I try to look on the bright side of things.

Oh and a tip, play the game fully zoomed out. Everyone really should be doing that for safety's sake anyway.
But since you won't see the mobs in fine detail, you may not be too bugged out over them.

So is it all insects equally, or are some worse then others? Do the ladybugs in central thanalan set you off as bad as the wasps in the east shroud? The bad news is that to some extent you cant avoid the issue. Almost every region in the game has some form of insect life. There are beetles lady bugs and mantises on La Nosca, there are wasps scorpions(diremites) and mosquitos(i read yarzon as mosquito types, some might say theyre more spider like) in the shroud, there are giant ants and sandworms(not sure if these count) in thanalan, dragonflys in coerthas, theres a big leech in mor dhona, you have Gnath in dravania, there are giant beetles in othard, butterflies and moths in gyr abania. The only region im not currently able to think up any insects for is Abalathias Spine(sea of clouds, azys lla) and its entirely possible im just blanking on something obvious. We dont have any region where insects are the primary foe, but you can find an example or two of them almost everywhere. As for the dungeons, some of them arent optional. To continue the story you need to clear out specific dungeons at specific times. Again, most dungeons dont feature anything that should trigger your fear(haunted houses, ruined castles, high tech labs), but a few of the ones that probly will are required to be completed. Toto-Rak is a spider infested cave(required), Cutters Cry is an ant burrow(optional), St Mociannes Arboretum has you go through a giant bee hive(optional) and a handful of other dungeons feature individual insect fights(while not having a greater bug motif) or insectile bosses.

So zooming out and playing with the sound low/off in these areas might help. But i know phobias can be tricky. For the lower level dungeons youre required to do, you do have the option of teaming up with a higher level person and doing the dungeon without syncing their level down. For Toto-Rak for instance, if you dont mind missing a tiny bit of the story you could sit at the entrance to the dungeon while a level 70 friend cleared all the fights(maybe leave the room or tab off the screen before the boss-reveal cutscene starts). A 70 could finish that dungeon without you having to help in 3-5 mins. The problem with this solution is that it only works on out-dated content, so if anything current has any creepy crawlies you wouldnt be able to use it. Best of luck, and i do hope you find a solution that works for you!

It is not possible to avoid all of them. There are many places, dungeons and areas containing insects or insect-like creatures where you have to go in order to proceed with the story.

Thank you all for your help - even though this doesn't sound all too pleasing for me

Maybe I should have been more specific; not every insect bothers me the same.
Spiders / Scorpions don't bother me at all. They're technically not even insects and suprisingly, my phobia knows the difference.
I also don't care about the small swarms of insects (they just look like tiny flying dots; even to me^^) and weirdly, beetles don't affect me either (such as ladybugs or sth).

Mosquitos or similar flies usually just make me uncomfortable but zooming out is definitely enough to stay calm. (same goes for insect-like fantasy mobs that only have some distinct features)
Ants, worms or butterflies only trigger some kind of reaction when they're really big and detailed. However, I'm usually not too bothered by them.

By far my biggest problems are bees, wasps or hornets. Zooming out is not enough in their case as they can easily trigger a full on panic attack for me :/. Yesterday, for example, I met "Giant Gnats" in Northern Shroud (I think?) and I couldn't deal with them. My friend had to do the story quest for me. Isn't it an option to let him do mandatory quests like that for me even for later contents?

Perhaps knowing about these distinctions helps to better pinpoint what dungeons or regions I should bypass (a giant bee hive as Frizze mentioned would be my personal nightmare for instance).

Thanks again for all of your help!

Most dungeons are part of the story and can not be skiped. An optional dungeon you might wanna skip is cutters cry which is a oversized ant hill. The game forces you through every corner on every map.

So skipping areas is not a thing. Well or you buy a level and story potion, but even then bugs are a enemy type and SE won't stop using them.

Ohhh yeah I forgot about those by the Syphs beat tribe in Central or North Shroud (cant remember).
You will definetly have some issues there as the gnats are already huge, and then there is the one FATE Gnat which is double the normal size.
    Be careful there, phobia wise.
