I'm glad they added the challenge log or the first two levels would have been a huuuuge pain. It's funny though after 1 day there is already a NM train for the first couple of NM's in the region due to the identification and mapping work being done over on Reddit.

I may have to give this a try then. I'd rather sit in Anemos where things spawn within the few hours there over pagos where see a whole maybe two fates if that.

On a side note, saw someone post a reddit thread about the reason why they didn't add in upgrade armor this time.... I'm just....who the heck did they get this information from? I sure the heck didn't vote for the no upgrade to armor. When I heard there would be no upgrade to the AF my first two thoughts, "Well this was a pure waste of time." after I worked on three jobs total and "Welp, this is purely disappointing." gave the benefit of the doubt that hopefully pagos was something new and exciting. Boy did SE drop the bomb on this... pagos has to be the most boring content I've seen yet, and no armor upgrade. Back to the tome grind for me to now upgrade armor... *shivers at the thought of doing lighthouse*
"Everyone has something they hold dear, something they never want to lose. That's why they pretend. That's why they hide the truth. And that's why they lie."
Anemos is viable.. just slow after a certain point but safe and braindead. After hitting 21 the exp jumps by 2x to 600k which would be really really slow. 20-21 is doable though, its only 300k. Saw some people that were 22-23 in there yesterday.
At least you get mendacity until the cap.

Wanted to touch on this a bit, but one thing, ferry trips weren't a half an hour long ride. There was also an actual point to the ferry rides. Be it from hunting down the pirates for that a quest in Mhaura, NM hunting, to fishing off the ferry. If people took the time to see beyond the time it took for a ferry to get to port to leaving, time on the sea, to the next port it was actually worth wild and fun. It was relaxing, and sometimes (back when people were still new) even pure chaos. Watching someone unknowingly walk up them stairs and onto deck just to get met with a NM in their face. There was excitement in the whole thing.
I'm sure you're right, people did walk away and do whatever during the time to the next port but not all of us who defended the ferry ride walked away to do other things. I'd hunt for NM's, I'd fish off the boat going back and forth. And sometimes I just took the ferry to stand out on the deck, enjoy the music playing and snap a few screen shots or help out the fishers by taking mobs they fished up and killing them.
I may be a bit bias (or a lot) but still to this day, XI is and at this point will only be SE greatest MMO. It may not have done everything right (what MMO does?) but it still far surpasses XIV in terms of enjoyment in nearly almost every area. Up until Abyssea and even then, some of Abyssea was enjoyable, XI just took a hard hit when it started falling from it prime years and new players were getting power leveled on worms and coming back out not having a clue what the heck they were doing. Like a DRG coming out after hitting level 99 and saying, "Why can't I hit anything?!" derp.. your a DRG... I mean... um have you thought that maybe you need to skill up your weapon? (lol sorry some light humor).
But yes, I defend the ferry trips. I wish it was an option in XIV also for those who want to take the time to enjoy the ride while still having the option of just porting nearly where ever for those who don't want to take these rides.
As for the rest of what you said, I can fully agree with. Yoshi saved this game from 1.0 but his ideas as of recent have felt like it bringing this game back down. Between housing being such a problem, all these little systems like the glamour dresser being so limited and poorly designed, to content that just not even remotely rewarding (at this point, may be the first AF weapon I drop and don't work on), to content being so spaced out and just again, blah. He's in over his head now. His ideas, while I don't know with the JP players how they feel, I as an NA player feel it just really horrible and I'm having a hard time answering myself when I ask the question, "What reasons do I have to pay my sub this month?" And when I answer myself, only thing I can come up with is, "Because my best friend and family plays." that it. Hardly seems worth the $15.99 when you can only add it up to, "I'm only here because of friends/family."

"Everyone has something they hold dear, something they never want to lose. That's why they pretend. That's why they hide the truth. And that's why they lie."

Been a while since I posted but, sadly, I have to say its bad and unfriendly.
Most important thing in Eureka is to level. Well, leveling is dreadful, even more so than Anemos. You can't kill mobs that are at your own level without having major difficulty, if at all. You can't do anything without a party so it excludes those that want to do at least something solo. No good ways to level outside of Challenge log and FATEs, which is sad. Exp/level reduction is active from the get go, so exploring the place is also out, something I had fun with in the first Eureka when it started since I could go anywhere without penalty, now you are bound to the grind from beginning to end.
Its just a grind fest. There is nothing else there for us but a grind. Cool, better weapons and loot? Start grinding and pray RNG helps. Spoilers: RNG helps nobody. Leveling? Grind upon grind. Exploration? Level up so you don't die, hence, go grind. Story? Hahahahaha, go grind then we'll talk.
You know what the worst part of it all is, since this is the second time around this system, I am even starting to think that the Diadem is better than this. At least there you had lots of little things to do all over the place that would get you the loot you wanted after a while.
I could be wrong about the total time - I thought that the pirate event would extend the time on the ferry. It's been a long time. they were definitely at least 15+ minutes though minimum just for the ride - which is 15 minutes longer than any other game took to get from point A to point B. And yes, you *could* fish off it if you wanted to - as I recall Nebimonite was good fishing there - but you had to have an interest in fishing and not just getting to your next destination to do whatever cool thing you wanted to do. Otherwise you were AFK below decks or (more often and more safely) afk next to the NPC at the wheel topside. I think that Sea Monk mob would sometimes aggro through the floor. Anyway, it just wasn't all that awesome once the novelty wore off.
Am I glad it's still there as an option? Yea. Dat Nostalgia. It's nice to hop on the airship and watch Vana'diel from above or take a ride on the manaclipper. They were cool ideas. You and I are in agreement in that XI was SE's crowning achievement and nothing they did before or since has been as epic (and I hope that you didn't take this one criticism of the game as some kind of indication that I think XI was bad).
But that doesn't mean that this particular bit was forward-thinking. The game should always give us incentive to play it. Content that lets or worse, encourages (Eureka) you to afk and do something else is not content at all. You are no longer playing the game you paid for. You are paying to have your character wait around for something interesting to happen. Remember, the ferry ride wasn't the only travel option that took x amount of minutes for no other reason than it *could*.
The days where I was tolerant to that kind of stuff were left long behind, and even XI's team eventually realized that stuff like AFK while traveling is not really content.

The FFXI ferry trips were relaxing, chaotic, a time to chat, a time to run around and take screenshots, a time to fish -- in a nutshell, unpredictable.
Literally nothing about FFXIV is unpredictable.
I've been an ardent supporter of this game for years, and I'm still hanging around -- and I love that Yoshi saved it -- but the game is undeniably flat and, unless you have either a raid static or an irrational love for glamor, it's really not fun. This game has an inexplicable lack of content for FCs, and any non-raid group content gets watered down to a train zerg. Yoshi did a great job heeding concerns of the EQ/FFXI era, but we've been going down this road for years, and by now we should be course correcting from overreactions of the WoW/FFXIV era.
Those ferry rides in XI were everything that used to be great about MMOs. Today's devs are missing the boat.

Finding it extremely dull so far.
Fates seem to spawn so slowly you get one every 30-40 minutes. Mob grinding and leeching off the Fate Train when they spawn one seems the way to go for now, but mindless chewing through sacks of health for 2 hours isn't my cup of tea.
Nice people enjoy it, personally don't find it much fun.
