Nope. Hated Fates Ever since Alpha. they're lifeless zergs that don't do a damn thing.

I don't know if anyone remembers that far back but towards the end of 1.23 and pre alpha the devs had told us some of the fates would be kinda like how hamlet defence worked. i.e be structured and have some impact on the game world around them... then what we got was a bunch of opos randomly attacking hystmill.... Woooooo!!!!!

kill the ops or just laugh at them it makes no difference the results are exactly the same whether the fait is completed or failed...

Hunts where supposed to be notorious monsters but the reality is hunts are just fates that don't show up on the map.... and every single one of them is just a zerg fest.

If fates had more structure or impact they'd be a lot ore fun. take that hystmil fate for example. if you made that some kinda mini besieged thing ala ffxi. it'd be bucket loads more fun to do. and would have impacted the game world as well. fail that attack and find gerolt has been abducted. so now players cant crack on with relics till they go rescue him... inconvenient for some folks perhaps but dam it eorzea would feel so much more dynamic and alive.. instead of dead and lifeless. another reason I hate fates. lifeless zergs in a lifeless world..

as far as eureka goes I said early 4.0 if it turned out to be a fate grind ala diadem I simply wouldn't bother. and well I spent 20 minutes in anemos on day 1 and have never gone back since

My beef with FATEs is the same as with PotD, Eureka and several other pieces of content:

    Fighting trash mobs isn't fun.

I don't care much about the package they're wrapped up in. It's a health sponge with a non-interactive autoattack and at most one actually interactive ability that typically amounts to:"Dodge", with "Dodge" being trivial unless you cluster them in a mass-pull. Putting more or less health on them, or more or less damage on them doesn't make it more interesting either, it's still non-interactive.

Boss FATEs can be okay. I shall keep the foxy lady fondly in my heart as one of the FATEs I genuinely enjoyed. Shame that kind is like less than one in hundred, tho.

It's not fun, because if you don't have telegraph to avoid or mechanics to execute, the gameplay is mostly boring, when you got your rotation.
On trash, you just blindly follow a rotation. Nothing to stun, to silence, no teamplay involved, you're just going on with your rotation. Thing are a little different for Healer and tank, but not that much.
And, while discover and mastering your skills and your rotation is fun, after a while it just become a chore.

This is partly why FATE train are so boring. You don't get any fun gameplay moment doing them.

I've hated FATE trains ever since it got to a stage where if you needed exp between levels you had to burn FATEs, you wanted your relic you needed to burn FATEs, you need grand company seals you needed to burn FATEs. I don't mind needing to do FATEs now and then but when the game turns into mindless FATE trains for hours upon hours then the game loses its appeal to me. Right now I'm seriously considering whether I should keep on subscribing. I coped with Anemos because I hoped by the end that there'd be something new and different, but Pagos is just the same thing and the same music I've heard so many times that I feel more than deflated, I feel MORTIFIED that SE thought this was a good idea.

Gaius van Baelsar: Nor is this unknown to your masters. Which prompts the question: what came first, the chicken or the egg?
