For the record the cost itself doesn't bother me but I was saying mainly for others that are affected by it but this is news. I was under the impression that the 5$ premium COVERED the additional retainer + Saddle bag expansion monthly... so you're saying its gonna be 5$ + 2 $ so 7$ for an additional retainer? Are you sure? Like I know it says in the Premium service you get an additional retainer but does it mention that it only unlocks the option to purchase one? Because the wording leads one to believe that you simply gain it automatically. This would be great to drill on.

It may not bother you, but it bothers me, seeing we are paying all this money for no reason. To give you a prospective, it would be like.. oh lets say McDonalds, getting a hamburger for 1.99 pretty standard and acceptable, while asking you if you like fries for 7 dollars more, then a coke for 5 dollars more, you are not exactly getting the value for your money. Same with this. With this game is built off all the recycling content, the endless treadmill since ARR, you are not getting the quality you expect for these prices. If the game was much higher quality, for example given us everything FFXI had to offer and more, having a true feel content for everyone, more battle grounds then wow has for pvp, so on, then the price would not bother me. With these prices though, they are clearly putting minimum effort for a premium cost, higher then any MMO i know of, with this double dipping of both sub model and F2P, one needs to question, are they really just milking the player base at that point? I think they are, and I am offended they are trying to push this far with it. So why does not bother you? You don't consider this may stop some from playing causing a smaller playerbase?

For the app question, I am not sure if we know 100% as we know SE has translation problems, but based on the current wording, yes it would be 7 dollars total for the app + retainer.

I downloaded the companion app to try it.
Well in my opinion it is an almost useless app.
You can only have 2 Kupo Nuts which a pathetic freemium thing to push you on the paid plan.
The chat function is kinda useless as it's not a real in game chat but an app only chat.
Who cares about this when you have so many chat apps on your phone that people actually use.
I can only find some merit in the MB browsing function to check for things while you are not in game but then again you have only 2 interactions to do so yeah this app is a shameful freemium milking mobile app and nothing more.

It's functions behind a pay wall is also lack luster, and it's competitor WOW has an app that gives the features their players wanted where the FF app has 3/10 of what the community wanted for an App and most of those functions they intentionally nerfed. I know it's still early but until I can send a retainer on a venture while im on the crapper I will be Uninstalling this app.

I've said this also. I was in love with WoW app because everything about it you could do without having to pay for it. SE pretty much took Blizzard idea (and made it crap) and put it behind a pay wall. I mainly used WoW for doing auctions and picking up my gold when stuff sold and that all I would use XIV for and retainers. Buuuuut it all behind a pay wall so, nope! Deleted it right off my phone after a few hours.

I never claimed it was feature filled. Even with Prem it at least serves some purpose, but should be free.

I will be Uninstalling this app.

I just wanted to be able to chat with my friends that are playing while I am away but it looks like that did not make it into the app.

I downloaded the app to give it a try, but I had high expectations after using the WoW app blizzard had when I played WoW religiously. I didn’t care about the MB feature (though being able to send retainers out while on the go would have been nice >.>), all I wanted were the chat features. You can’t use the app to talk within game, which is a huge disappointment. You can’t even talk with people unless they have the app which is frustrating. Here my fellow officers were thinking this was gonna be a fix to the communication issue we had with someone we’ve been looking to promote to officer (they don’t use discord). I didn’t want another discord type app. I wanted to be able to talk with all of the FC people when I wasn’t online and they were. We use discord, but not all of the fam wants it, so we were hoping this was gonna let us stay in contact. It’s a very sad day.

May I ask why? That seem to me like .... odd. Discord is the the standard messaging plattform for communicating in text and voice. I used to believe it being a TS3 until i realised you could text with people.

I often hear this complaint from PS4 players who for some reason only wanna sit on PS Messenger or Party chat.

I don't know about the person you responded to but personally although I have Discord, it barely gets used (I'm on PS). Any of my FC friends I need to stay in contact with we can do it through other stuff such as WhatsApp, PS Messenger App or FB etc. I mean there is little need to use yet another medium to communicate you know when there is so many already. If the FFXIV App let you speak with players in real time that are online in the game, that would be amazing but it seems a bit of a pipe dream at the moment.

I could care less if it was advertised or not. It’s sad a far older game was able to do a fantastic app YEARS ago, all while being completely free. This app could have been so much better. There are plenty of typical app to app messaging apps out there, we don’t need more. What we needed was a way to communicate with people online while on your phone. What is the point in an app for an MMO if you can’t do that?


I don’t care to try and understand why people wouldn’t want discord. Frankly it’s none of my business, and if someone doesn’t want it I won’t try to change their mind. That’s their choice, even if I find it odd myself. The best solution that would’ve made everyone happy is to have communication from app to game. That way those who wanted to keep using discord can, while still able to keep in touch with people in game that don’t have it.

I dunno, just my opinion. It just could’ve been better.
