Best way to farm Nightmare?

So I joined the game later on, and now have that MMO curse of trying to go back and get rewards from old content nobody wants to do anymore.

I'm also a little OCD, so I'm trying to collect stuff (mounts and minions mainly) in the order in which they were released.

So the next thing on my list is the Nightmare mount, drops from Bowl of Embers, Howling Eye, or Navel (extreme versions only).

First off - Does this even still drop in an unsynced run? I don't want to run unsynced if it has a zero chance of dropping there.

Secondly, which is the best way to farm it? I'm assuming Howling Eye Extreme?

And if so, what's the best way to run it?
- Unsynced with up to 4 level 70 people for fast, 30 second runs, zero chance of failure
- Solo, more like 2 minute runs, some chance of failure (still haven't figured out a good class to do this with)
- Synced (which would be hard to get a group for, either PF or DF, but if it significantly increases drop chance then maybe worth it?)
- Minimum IL runs (probably impossible to find a group for?)

Any ideas? I'm probably going to spend a chunk of this weekend trying to get this thing to drop so any advice is absolutely welcomed. And if you want to come help me farm it even better. =P

Nightmare can drop from unsynced runs, yes.
People do tank only runs of garuda often enough that you should hop into one of those. Farm for tank mount as well as nightmare.

People still do unsync pony farms, and if its ifrit garuda or titan then you have a shot of nightmare drops in addition to their personalized ponies. But Canadanes tank mount party suggestion is probly the easiest way. And someone whos farming off however many hundred runs might already have all the ponies and be more then happy to pass.

If you were going to do solo runs, they will take longer, but you will be guaranteed the mount. Any tank should be able to solo Garuda Ex if you're level 70. They could probably solo all three, but Garuda will take less time compared to Ifrit or Titan. If you have a friend willing to help, all three can be duo'd easily.

The first time I saw Nightmare drop was while I was doing Garuda EX on my Warrior in a tank group who wanted to get their tank mount, which was my case as well. I got the mount that time, and after I saw it drop, I saw it repeatedly drop while trying to get my tank mount in tank groups.

That's what I was going to suggest as well. Not only does it let you work on an achievement mount, but often a lot of the party already has it from farming primals so much.
