What if u all planed to go to world 1 the sever locks and only %5 of uns get them where the heck the rest uns going to go? ur all end up spilt across server's most linkshells dont brother with a website or using forums so pretty much if this happened LS break and YAY have to go threw a new server meeting new people that say 1 word a month woot. great times that will be. If everyone talked more on the game it wouldnt be so bad. But since no1 likes to talk to people out side there friendslist or linkshell this idea is screwed SE will can it and everyone knows it most likely be canned because way to many people are yapping this is stupid and only like say 10 of people like u that like this idea.People know damn well they'll complain if they were FORCIBLY merged onto a server.
"SE why didn't you give us a choice to choose?"
I see absolutely nothing wrong with this format because not only can you choose where to go, you have a full 2 months to decide and transfer.
By the way, in a normal server you lose your guild/lists/items if they're stored on a server database (like in a delivery queue) etc, so I'm really not seeing a problem lol. People say they'll quit because they add an enmity meter and icon to distinguish which mobs aggro.
I personally say feel free to quit if it's so hard to coordinate with your linkshell to choose server 1 - 10 to go to and recreate your linkshell.
Since FFXI's server merges were mentioned, people complained about the way they did that because not only was there zero way to give priorty to someone in terms of name, you were thrown onto a server you tend to not wanted to be or it was a bad choice of 2 servers to merge due to reputation or high population of x region, i.e Titan and Phoenix were heavily Japanese centric servers, so when they merged it caused more problems for the lower NA/EU player base.
With XIV's transfers you're selecting a new server which gives you the choice to go to before they merge the servers, this is actually the best way to handle it because it can determine your status much easier than forcibly merging. People will complain about not being able to keep their name because "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW I PLAYED MORE THAN THIS PERSON!"
With this setup, guess what? You can. Seriously, the only issue would be if you somehow have no communication with your friends or linkshell mates to coordinate where to go.

Actually, I would say that the only people who don't lose with the current set up are those with one mutually exclusive group of friends. I've said this before.
If we're all to take our friends to the same server, then essentially the whole server will move, so it's basically an A+B+C->New Server 01 anyway.
If any one group of people decides differently, people will be caught in the middle; that really sucks.
lmao ur 1 to talk this is my first complate ever against SE everything till now has been awesome i seen u about the forums yapping at them about anything they wanna do so don't talk to us about complaining when u yap more that half the people here![]()

And yet I don't complain about everything SE does like most of the forum base lol.
yea sorry was a dick there didnt mean to take it out on ya just upset that could be losing most of my friends and linkshell >< but this is my first time being all up raged and i don't like it >< i hope SE does it the way we requested in the first place and then if wanted give people 1 chance of server transfer of there choose after the mergre.

There's already a good chance they'll officially enact a server transfer feature since they have the ability to do so with FFXI, but since this is the first server merge (the servers themselves are being merged just not the databases to give players the chance to choose where to go.)
With XI's merge, they merged 2 high population servers or everyone flooded to 1 because they liked the name which then locked that server out to new registrations/transfers which also locked out friends and linkshells because of overflow, so either system has the possibility of a lockout or people getting separate, I personally say to avoid choosing server 1 because you know that's the one everyone will choose because it's first on the list.
The only real problem I see is with server 10 and if there's a high EU population (French/German) and it fills up too quickly.
1. Well see, here's the thing. Instead of trying to migrate 2-3 linkshells of 100 people each onto one server, attempt to go with you MAIN shell...yes, this require a decision/commitment of the player. 2. You know who your close in-game friends are. Talk to them (I mean the about 4-12 people you SUPER enjoy the company of not 30+) Make sure you all go to the same server. It is reasonable to expect that you and 8ish close friends will make it on to a new server with ease. This way, if you can't get on the same server as your primary ls, you will still have friends...and the close friends who are most important to you.
3. SE doesn't want us all to stay together...they WANT to mix us all up, because it will FORCE us to talk to each other, form new alliances, make new linkshells, and re-energize us.
4. The people who try to bully you into following them vs. your heart/other friends, aren't your in game friends anyway.
5. If you are worried, have a 'back-up' server.
6. If you are worried, don't pick server 1. (The undecided will tend to pick it as it will be on the top of the list...human nature).
7. By mixing us all up, they change the playerbase economy...something that needed to be done.
8. A year and a half was a long time for some competitive bad blood to store up...it allows people who don't get along to go their seperate ways. (an A-B transfer would still keep them together)
9. Everyone has to go through the exact same pain=commradery/community bonding.
10. Rebuild was one of the 4 Keystone points Yoshi P. had for his re-development of the game. This is DEF. one way to rebuild a stagnant community.
Choose between LS and friends... I know that this is the option we've been given, but do you really think it's a good one?1. Well see, here's the thing. Again, so you may have hit the nail head on, but do you agree with it? Does disbanding a community really make it stronger? Or will it just make the 50-person linkshells that travel together completely isolated from the rest of the server.3. SE doesn't want us all to stay together...they WANT to mix us all up, because it will FORCE us to talk to each other, form new alliances, make new linkshells, and re-energize us.
The rest of your post I agree with almost completely. ^^
