The discussion in this thread shows why SE's way of merge isnt wrong. Its not about population, but there is also timezones, lagnguage and other stuff you have to include.

Seems like it will be impossible to convince everyone what method is preferred, even if it's a mixed one. Instead of most of us winning, seems like we're all gonna lose unless they start throwing labels on more servers than just #10.

After some much needed sleep (cranky) I gave it some thought.
Ultimately this plan alienates people from low population servers, not just those who wish to move to a new server.
It's not about established players being able to stay established, even though the main concern is keeping your community intact (Nothing wrong with that.)
This situation is about people who are currently divided across all servers like EU players.
Once the merge selection goes active it then becomes about people who no longer have a server as well.
In the entirety of the plan here; I like it. But it fails to include everyone, which I can't agree with.

I can already say this plan doesn't look to end up working. A for effort though. Seems like the majority of active shells on Lindblum are deciding on World #5.
So does the majority of the JP players that voted here: http://ffxiv-fan.rulez.jp/world_change.php (Thanks to Reinheart for the link)

Urgh I don't wnt Lindblum as number 1, there is a chance the top 3 servers will fill up very fast and cause people to be locked out.
Well, this should be interesting seeing as this is the most fracture bitter community of MMO players I've ever ever seen.

Community Server Fix ? World Merge
A good way to fix the community problems imo with the upcoming server merge is Simple. All SE has to do is simply leave the ability to x-fer servers in well after the merge that will allow the players who for whatever reason were not able to switch to the server they wanted to due to maybe not being on the game for unforeseen reasons.
Also this will allow those whom have been inactive but were planning on returning to link up with the players that they were playing with in the first place.
Another possible solution is if your doing this in order to better populate a server due to low population simply merge two low population servers in together without making people actually have to apply for that server. Simply combine two servers into one server , it really cannot be that difficult at least not as difficult as going through a much harder process as in making everyone choose a server and if that server is full having to choose another one which will frustrate alot of people if they are trying to go to the same server as their linkshell and or friends.
By combining two into one it eliminates so many of those problems that will occur some of which might even cause people to simply stop playing altogether which if im not mistaken could cause a domino effect later on and wind p causing more people to leave than was initially expected.
