I haven't talked to anyone in this game beyond "hello" and "tyfp" in about 2 years. It's definitely not a game where being social makes any difference whatsoever.

In FFXI we had a long term ls and all of us were great friends even if we were from other parts of the world. It was crucial to make friends and form alliances in that game to get anything done. In ESO and in GW2 I am much more social. Even just chatting with random people. The playerbase of other games are quite different overall.

Here you watch a video and join a pf or df pt. No need to even get on voice chat or even type in party at all really. Not to mention chat boxes are generally filled with 10+ line picture macros, usually the same one cause no one can come up with anything new. Heck I don't even have alliance chat turned on, I turned that off long ago do to alliance wide macros and people trying there best (and usually failing) to be funny trolls.

It would be nice for them to give us a reason to be more social. But for now the rewards don't match the effort when it comes to more hardcore content and there isn't much to do since everything becomes outdated so fast. Add on top the lack of long term goals and you don't have much to be social over outside of the social for its own sake. If you are brand new this may not be the case but for us long timers, yeah no need.
