How much do FRIENDS make a difference with you?

I had an easier time meeting like-minded people back in WoW. FFXIV's community isn't terrible but it can be hard to find people to connect with who actually want to play the game and do not just use it as a glorified chat room/fashion show. I'm somewhat guarded by nature, too, since a lot of people have proven to be overly sensitive and flaky. I have a weird schedule so playing on a NA server is a necessity for me but I'm actually European...which means there's a bit of a culture clash at times. Apparently not oversharing makes me 'frigid'.

I enjoy the game, I'm just unfortunately in a position where I'm mostly just doing my own thing. I do have friends but their schedules don't align with my own. Ironically, most of the people I chat to in-game are people I met through this very forum.

My question is basically this...

With your gameplay, how much do your in-game friends influence it?

I'm really curious about this. I myself cannot go by without them. Just today, one of my friends gave me a discount for an IL 350 weapon. There was no way I could've afforded it on the market board. He sold it to me for barely 60% of the market board price.

I've had a friend give me 150,000 Gil even though I only asked for 50k. Lol.

This is an MMO after all. Socialization and friendship is indispensable.

Might as well drop my answer. I don't have a choice, myself. I don't log in to this character because the last time I did, I was greeted by notes asking me to off myself. Which is well deserved, honestly. For the most part, I've learned to keep to myself and not bother anybody. Much easier when I'm persona non grata in game.
