So I updated the OP with the latest news on this issue, I'm pretty happy with Yoshida's latest answer to the controversy:
Plan 2 is:Greetings all,
Yoshida's most recent post lets players know the current plan for the World Merge.Quote Originally

I’d first like to thank you for all of your posts.
I’ve been looking at the threads across all regions and I’m sorry that this has caused a huge disturbance amongst each of the regions.
Currently, we're seeing a lot of feedback that favors plan ②, and we're considering revisions that use plan ② as a base while retaining the merits of plan ④. The operations and development teams will continue to gather everyone’s feedback while we investigate further. This is also a technical matter and we also need to confirm schedule timing, so I’m sorry to say that we’ll need some additional time and that this will continue through the weekend and into the start of next week.
For the Topics announcement, we considered temporarily taking it down, but we decided against that as we feared that if players were unable to see the information, you wouldn’t be able to discuss it with the same background knowledge. Therefore, we’ll be keeping the current announcement up as we go into next week.
Just to reiterate, there are a lot of players that are voicing their concerns, and we will strive to find an acceptable balance as much as possible before moving forward. Therefore please keep this in mind and try to understand our reasoning.
A + B - X ⇒A World to merge with B World, except people that would like to move are able to choose a different World.
Which is what most of the people have been asking for here. So that topic is pretty much dread.
This thread is now about the other point mentioned in the OP which is making sure the individually locked personal loot system as seen on the Primal Fights is not used for the two new instanced raids, and AF armor.
This does so much damage to the enjoyment of endgame in FFXIV. It is an atrocious grind for 8 people to repeat an instance in which they each have a completely random chance of getting the drop they want, and are unable to share the drops they do get with their teammates.
Please tell us that you are not considering using this loot system in 1.21's dungeons. Having various sets of quality gear to strive for could be a huge boost to the enjoyment of this game for many. Please do itemization and loot right in this patch. I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of players disapprove of the current primal loot system, and would rather at least go back to a Darkhold style system.

Yeah who ever heard of allowing a group to share drops among themselves after a fight, that is just preposterous. No MMO's have ever done that...
It's so much more fun to get 8 mage weapons as a melee, or 40 melee weapons as a mage before you get something you want to use! I'd hate to be able to give those to my friend who plays that class and could use because then I'd be an evil communist!
No much better they should drop since I already have the weapon.
I giggled at thisNo, they never complained about that. They also never continually posted information about supposed server population numbers.
They also neverabout when P2P went live everyone would quit.
So why on earth would they complain about losing people who were supposedly long quit or left after P2P? Silly Veran.
