I know it doesn't matter to most people, but i for one am rather happy that the gender of your partner doesn't matter for valentiones, a welcome change from FFXI's version.
As for what to do, so far all i've figured out is you form a 2 person party with the person of your choosing, and pick the first love option, true (or was it pure?) love. doing so got me the paramours pendant. The other option, dear love, is where you try to find someone of the race and company affiliation they are asking for, which changes every earth day. Mine was an elezen of the maelstroms. talking to the lady with a nearby random elezen got me 3 special chocolates, which when used on a person lets you blow a kiss on them, granting a point toward (their) blessing. If you yourself collect 20 blessing points, (or maybe 20 total from both people, it wasn't terribly clear), you get a gift from that city-state.
Another gift is obtained by finding the person they ask for in each of the three city states. So I presume it's one for a pure love bond, another for getting dear love in all 3 city states, and a last from getting 20 points as a couple. Also, the couple with the highest points each earth day gets declared the most loving couple of the realm.

Paramour's was Pure Love. Dear love is for the matching race they seek.I know it doesn't matter to most people, but i for one am rather happy that the gender of your partner doesn't matter for valentiones, a welcome change from FFXI's version.

Also, its ironic that this event that went live today is not gender biased (Again, a welcome change from FFXI.) , given also that washington just passed the bill on gay marriage.
Happy valentiones day everyone.
As far as I can tell, the event has 4 parts.
1) get in a duo with anyone and talk to the first NPC to declare a bond of pure love
Reward: Paramour Pendant, 3 chocolates, Acheivement
2) get in a duo with a character of a certain race & GC aligment to declare a bond of dear love in all 3 cities
Reward: Platinum Paramour Pendant, 3 Chocolates, Acheivement
(only get chocolates if you haven't obtained in that game day. You can declare your love at each city regardless of the day, but only get chocs once)
3) use a consecrated chocolate on a character to give them 1 "Glory of Love Points". Talk to 2nd NPC to get your love points evaluated. When you gather 20 points (not sure if this is individually or jointly) you get a reward
Reward: Band of Eternal Love, Acheivement (x2 if you get all 3 chokers)
4) people who accumulate the most amount of Glory of Love points in a day (resets 24 hrs) gets nominated Eorzea's most loving couple.
Reward: Lodestone History acheivement?
Notes:
¤ Couples can be any race and gender
¤ You can only declare love multiple times per day for either deep or pure, but can only get chocolates once per game day
¤ The specified character type changes each day
¤ 24 hour turover time is IN GAME CLOCK on real time.
¤ The specified character type is the same in each city, but the company bust be the city's company (e.g. Uldah had a Flames Elezen, Limsa had Maelstrom Elezen, Grid had Adder Elezen)
¤ Once you get your Glory of Love points recorded for the day they are reset (e.g. if you record @20 for the item, you will have to start over again if you want the max in one day - unless 20 will win you the maz)
¤ Glory of Love points will accumulate until you get them recorded. You can get them evaluated without them being set down and reset
¤ Each city has its own top couple standing (i.e. there can be 3 winners per game day, so try a deserted city)

This game is not WoW; if you want WoW, go play WoW. If you get butthurt when people mention Final Fantasy XI, then shut up about WoW.As much as it might hurt you, and as much as someone else brings the balance issues up, FFXI had the jobs right. And, you know, this is a FF, and I don't see you guys complaining about people asking for WoW things. So please.
Also, it's not like this dev team is being true to the roots of the jobs anyway.
