FFXI new player questions

Hello i know this does not belong in the ffxiv fourms but i cannot get on the ffxi fourms as i do not have an active account and i dont know where to go so i have some questions hopefully the community can help. Also while is my great game i want to play and explore vanadiel.

1. Whats the diffrence between the ultimate collectors edition and the seekers of adoulin? I see it at the SE store .

2. I want to be a DNC and that is my ultimate goal. I dont want to use it as a subjob but use it as my main job and also whats a good subjob for it?

3. Is there a lot of requirements to be a dnc?

4. Is it worth playing? I missed out on playing ffxi in its prime due to not having money to get a ps2 or pc to play the at the time. I didnt even have internet so i missed out on great stories i wish i can share.

5. Can i glamor?

6. Mithra or taru?

7. Whats a populated server?

1: No clue
2: Been out of the game, so I'm not sure how viable it is. Last time I was playing though it was all about SCH setting up a MB with the tank and mages nuking it and all other DPS was trash.
3: Level 30, and a bit of progress into the Wings of the Goddess expansion.
4: FFXI is definitely worth playing, at least for all the old level 75 content. Getting geared up enough to finish Seekers of Adoulin and the last parts of Rhapsodies of Vana'diel can be annoying if you're not a meta-appropriate job though.
5: Yup! Simple text command to lock your gear in place. You can also make it lock a specific saved gearset, allowing you to glamour stuff you can't actually wear at the moment.
6: Up to you.
7: Asura I believe.

I would recommend the FFXI subreddit. They're super helpful there

I think XI is a great game, and can be a lot of fun, even at this point in its life. Fair warning - I think it's a game that you really want to have to play as the first week or two will be quite trying. You get dropped into the game, no gil, no quest icons, no idea how to even open the bloody menus (which you will use extensively - but if you can survive the learning pains, it's a great game.

Not trying to scare you off here, I just think coming from modern games and then going to XI can be a bit of a shock X: Still totally worth it!

As Urthdigger mentioned, Asura is I believe the most populated shell there. There's a nice LS (FC equivalent) named Asatru that is quite friendly and takes all types of new/returning/experienced players just looking for a good time. May want to look them up.

And again, FFXI subreddit! Quite a lot of information there and guides, how to start, what to do, external references, etc. Good luck

Buy the Ultimate Edition, it has every expansion included, and there is many, 16 years worth of content!
Select Asura server, its the most populated world. Be sure to read everything from NPC's because you wont find any quest markers, only little hints...

3. No, just have Wings of the goddess installed and a job at least level 30 (rec mage jobs for sneak and invis as unlike 14 if you get agro they will chase you till you're dead)

4. Eh, depends on your playstyle IMO

5. Sort of, but you can't dye the gear. I think the command is /lockstyle on once you have what you want on. (*cough* if you look around the web you can use .dat mods to change the look of gear its client side so its allowed)

6. Mithra are female only with only one male Mithra npc you can get as a trust. Tarus you can be male or female

7. Asura, if you rather play solo go to any other server.

ehh that is not true, but that really depends on your ability to kite. They can give up before you zone but ya the point is, it is not like FFXIV where if you run out of a 5 meter radius they give up. Most of the time you have to zone or run a really long time.

NM and HMN will chase you till death or till you zone, but for zoning it'll despawn and go back to one of its window spawn points
