Why should they cater to these people if it gives the rest of us a chance to choose where we want to go?

Just giving them the option to choose when they come back would give them what they want. Has nothing to do with how they do the current merge. If they did an A->B merge, they wouldn't have to do anything to have what they want. If they toss it up like they have now, they need to be able to choose as well. Your argument... I don't understand.
