Do you really think that's a good call? Makingeveryonesome people miserable with their server name? If they don't give us the name, I'd honestly prefer that they remain "Server 01," etc. forever.
EDIT: My own pet peeve, including everyone in a stereotype.
If someone really gets bent out of shape over the name of a server I have no faith left in this community. Though it seems no one really thought that the names simply weren't decided as the system (new servers) are much more important >.>
Yea, that's exactly why. But what's wrong with using the server's name to make decision? It's the server we're gonna be playing on for years to come most likely. Shouldn't it be a name that we like? Shouldn't that be our decision, not SEs?
How do you think people would act if their character name was randomly chosen for them if someone already had theirs? I bet they'd be pretty pissed. It's the same thing to an extent.
Whut names aren't decided? They're going to be the 10 highest-pop servers' names. We just don't know what one we're gonna be on.
Which means, they aren't decided yet. In the end, what does it truly matter? Your server name has absolutely no bearing on anything other than what you liked more between FFI-XIII.
To each his/her own. If it doesn't bother you, don't let it bother you that it bothers other people. Your server name won't make a difference to you, so don't let your lack of concern for server names make a difference to others?
Maybe not to you, which is fine. But it means something to others, which is clearly being demonstrated these past few hours.
Honestly this could have been avoided by simply doing a normal server merge... taking smaller servers into larger ones to even the numbers.
A world transfer service would not hurt either, even if it did come with similar stipulations as say FFXI (cost and a limit as to how many time it can be done in a time period)
It's that, but there's also the interest of people to stay within the community they're currently in. This way, everyone will most definitly be shuffled, and there's no guarantee in any of the 7 hells that all servers are gonna be evenly distributed. I bet some is gonna be crammed, and others desolate. If they're gonna keep the current names anyway, then just stay with that, give everyone the option to transfer or Stay. The servers that's closed down will move into them, and they may chose what affiliation or population they want to join into. Or rename all the servers. Then everyone at least get depressed equally.
It's not rocket science to understand people want to stay in the server with the same people they are currently playing with or around. It doesn't have to be all for roleplaying reasons.
Scandinavians, or people wishing to join a community of Scandinavian languages in FF XIV, please check my blog on Lodestone and submit a comment to make your interest known.
I'm not saying if it's a good call or not, I'm just saying I can see the reasoning that is behind the decision. Some people are just loudly wondering why, oh why they don't give us the server names. There's a reason why: so you don't choose them based on the name.
Sure, you might want to choose a server name you want as another part of your character, but SE might want population to spread without any server getting more or less popular because of its name. They're two points of view, and I can see the reasoning behind them both.
The reason I posted that is diferent, I'm just amazed how some people can say, and I quote, "what ridiculous reason could you have for hiding our server names from us until we are on them"... and them say they choose their name for a reason. So there you have it, they don't give us the name so you don't choose based on them, geez.
Server Name is choice, even if its a little log in message only its important. I wanted to make sure when I started that I got Figaro. I don't want to have no choice in a name that will identify me all over the place(i.e. look under all the avatars on the forum). To me its like char names and if those are being carefully handled I can't imagine why this isn't being.
Also those complaining about "names will influence choice and unbalance pop" -- thats why 8 names are removed. The overall less number is whats supposed to change the player base distribution, not remove people from popular ones.
Also anyone recall how full the first market ward was when the game started? Implying that doesn't happen with the other worlds.
