The point of this thread is superficial names. I didn't miss it.
I want to know why we should destroy the current balance the un-named servers have in the name of superficial names.
Perhaps you missed the point of my question.

That has not been explicitly stated and I believe this little blurb may speak to that concern...Although this refers to Newly Created Characters, I think this applies to existing Non-Active (non-paying) Characters as well. Activate your account after the merge ends and you can choose between any non-full servers. If you wish to avoid being automatially assigned to a new World, we suggest that you create your character after the World merge maintenance is completed.
Obviously we need more info and clarifications so I will stop speculating, go to bed and check for Rep Responses in the morning. ;>)
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
If the servers remained unnamed it likely wouldn't matter. The problem is some people care about their server name more than others. If you don't understand why, that's fine, we're not asking you to.
But believe it or not, for some people, nostalgia is the reason they chose their server. To be on a server named something they like is important to them, no matter how silly it may sound to you.
There's ways to keep the balance without hiding the server names anyways.
Well, I did answer it on post number 28 ^_^
Also the topic at hand is the 'superficial names' so perhaps better to stick to that in this thread *nod nod*I think that it is incorrect that they will find much more 'balance' Server 1 and 2 will fill up fully and fast regardless of thier name. Japanese players will steer clear of server 4 for superstition. We can see German and French players are being directed at server 10. Groups are already claiming numbers for servers (6ysahl, 7rabia, 8esaid)
They will still be unbalanced and we lose a choice and a pleasure.
I understand.
I chose Gysahl because of FFXI chocobo quest.
At the same time, maintaining balance in the crucial move is more important than my nostalgia factor.
There are indeed ways to maintain balance without hiding the server name. This current merge setup is not one of them..
Slow down, there. Actually:That has not been explicitly stated and I believe this little blurb may speak to that concern...If you have an inactive account, your characters will be held in limbo, when you log on you will be automatically added to a world.

To select a destination, an existing playable character must be associated with a player’s service account. As long as a player has at least one usable character, a destination World may be chosen for all characters in the service account, including characters that have not yet been paid for.Players who do not select a destination World during this period will be automatically distributed across the Worlds.
*nods* There was definitely better ways to go about the merge.I understand.

I also chose Gysahl for it's link to Chocobos, I loved breeding and racing them in FFXI, and plan to do so when it is available here.
Obviously this thread is for ppl that are interested into sticking with the same community.
And since you already stated in many other threads that you don't care about such a thing, why bother reading AND answering?
I agree with the OP, especially due to the adorable signature. I want one.
I'd rather just see they rename all the remaining ten servers. To something new or something old doesn't matter. We can't just be kept in the dark if we are gonna organize transfer with friends and LS'. The most populated 5 is ofc all gonna know their servers will remain, but the rest is gonna have much more difficulty knowing how to either remain, or which one to chose. I suspect the top 3 servers are gonna recieve a huge pop boost, while the others will recieve a mere slice due to this uncertainty.
In fact, to avoid people being hurt, feeling shoved or neglected or favourized (albeit I can't see why, one must understand some people feel proud with belonging to a certain server with a certain name), the best solution would probably be to make 10 new servers with 10 brand new names. And after that's settled, linkshells need a month to actually plan and prepare this stuff. Gather the members, inquire everyone, note down names and/or procedure. Make sure every user recieve an e-mail to their registered account email and so forth. The proposed merger is far too vague in its present state.
Scandinavians, or people wishing to join a community of Scandinavian languages in FF XIV, please check my blog on Lodestone and submit a comment to make your interest known.
Ha ha Elune, all I did was take a screenshot and pop my name onto it ^_^ Thankies!
I can see the US devs waking up and going 'dear gawd' at the English forums... much coffee will be had.
At least... I assume they are all in the USA since there is no one here.
