Server merge: Hidden server names.

It's great that we have been heard and he makes a good address of the issue. There is a chance they will change the current plans.

These were the options: Personally I like ② the best out of all of them... This way we can stay together and still give those people who want to go somewhere totally different the choice! ... for all the reasoning in the post this one just screams out at me as the obvious best choice.

①A + B⇒A World to merge with B World
②A + B - X ⇒A World to merge with B World, except people that would like to move are able to choose a different World
③A + B - C ⇒A World to merge with B World, except people that would like to move are able to choose to go to C World
④Prepare 10 Worlds, set a limit, and give everyone the power to move their characters to a World of their choice.

I am absolutely infuriated about this utterly unnecessary complication in world transfer!

* The new Worlds shall inherit the names of the ten most popular current Worlds. Name assignments will be announced after the transfer selection period has ended.

What ridiculous reason could you have for hiding our server names from us until we are on them?
Yes they are just names but to some of us they have value and enhance our experience!

I chose my server for a reason, it is one of the top and will be featured as a name in the 10 but I and my friends who also want to stay on the same name have to chance getting it in a stupid hope of luck?

Please change this and allow us to see the server names before we transfer!!

Perhaps it would have been easier to truly merge server A to server B. At least you would have guaranteed control of the numbers. Perhaps even allow everyone the free transfer anyway ... but it should be a choice, don't force us to split up or follow one group in hopes that we can stay together,

I would like to offer some insight into why we decided not to display the World names.

The operations and development teams held many internal discussions regarding how the Worlds were going to be merged. We discussed displaying the World names and allowing players to choose their destination and we also considered having some Worlds dissolved and merged into other existing worlds.

We did consider deciding on the World names beforehand, but the problem is that players often choose which World to go to based on its name (to be more specific, currently both Selbina and Gysahl are highly populated due to the popularity of the World names).

Therefore, when merging 18 servers into 10, you can imagine that there will be a rush to choose the Worlds that have popular names. These would fill up quickly and we would have to stop letting people in, and then it would end up being something of a lottery. Taking into consideration the time difference and what day etc, it was really hard to decide, but as we are making playing together as a community a priority, we have decided to hold back the World names and let people choose this way.

We are aware that some players may be frustrated at this, and we apologize for that but please try to understand our reasoning. We haven’t decided which World will get what name yet. For, things like drawing lots and other methods, we want to think about this separately.

Thank you for an official response. However the problem remains where people are going to flood the servers based on numbers 1 and 2 will obviously fill up fast. 7 will as well. Officially 10 is recommended for certain language groups... what difference does it make to give us our names except to give us back a pleasure we are crying out for?

That's kind of the thing with the RP community here on Besaid too. Besaid is known as the unnofficial RP server. Soon as merges are done and names are revealed the RP community may not even be on Besaid anymore, but Selbina, Istory, even Fabul if it's one of the top 10 servers they pick for naming. This means those in the future if Besaid still exists as another server will end up choosing that server expecting RPers but end up finding they made a mistake.

But it's the top 10 meaning all of the servers will have a pre determined population of people wanting to stay there, there is already an amount of even ground in that regard.

I agree. Server name is more than just a name to me as well. If they weren't the names of previous FF towns that may be another story, though.

While I'll be moving to whatever server my LS decides, I'd still hate to end up on Rabanastre for example. God, FF12 was such a shitty game lol. I'd much rather be in Fabul again, or ideally Narshe if it was an option.

Which is a good idea in theory, except it won't work. More people will think of how barren most of the servers are and just select option 1, 2, or whichever the first available one is giving that one a higher population. I know I will be.
