Server merge: Hidden server names.

LOl I get what you mean. But look how quickly popular named servers like Rabenastre and Besaid filled up while servers like mine (kashuan) stayed a freakin ghost town since release. I think people should spend less time worrying about names, and more time working together to communicate with one another in a way that gets the most people on the server they want together. While I love the analogy (because it was hilarious) this game isnt a movie. If it were, the title wouldnt change the content of the movie one bit. Everyone will still be playing the same game. I don't know, maybe I am wrong. I AM one of those people that thinks public schools should wear uniforms, and trust me, I know how popular THAT concept is with people. I am just an army guy at heart, and am all for making decisions based on substance rather than appearences.

Server name is important enough that SE mailed me a Right of Passage that lists Figaro as my server. Now if the server was shut down and wasn't available at all I could see not being able to be on it. But from player population polls there is a good chance that its going to be a still living world and I have a 10% chance to randomly pick the right one.

I never even got my Rite of Passage certificate. Sent away for it a month or two after the game came out and it never arrived. I wouldn't fret over it too much though. Perhaps they can make an online printable version of the passage thing allowing players to choose their own. Unlikely to happen though...

People feel passionate about something, lets remove the reason to be passionate and stick them with some random shit they don't want rather than what they want.

I really want to know why people are "passionate" about server names. The name of a server means absolutely nothing and has no effect on gameplay. The only effect it has on anything is popular names get picked more and then you end up with an overpopulated server. Or maybe you didn't know that Bahamut and Odin in FFXI were closed to character creation for nearly a year because those worlds were overcrowded?

It boggles my mind why people get so emotional about server names.

With XI i could understand, because all of the assholes, douchebags, greedy people and "I'll be better than everyone else" people moved to Hades and Remora when it opened therefore were dubbed the worst servers in XI and you know it by reputation.

...Aside things like that a server name means nothing..absolutely nothing as the only time you know you're on a specific server is when you boot up the game. No other community in terms of MMOs care about their Shard/Crystal/Portal/Realm etc name, just if its PvP or PK or PvE for example lol.

Names like selbina are popular because many come from XI. I think we should use more XI names, maybe people could move from Selbina to *drumrolls* Mhuara!! tehehe :P Id go for it, lol.
