Well it's lovely and all and I think that like...It's been long enough and I was wondering when they'd do this. But really? In this way?
They would have been better off just taking low count servers and merging them with medium-quantity servers. ): Isn't that what they did with 11? They should have done this before they started charging. Not everyone who wants to play can play, and first come first serve?
I've made a lot of great friends and allies in XIV and to know we may all be split up, well it's just as good for someone who doesn't have friends, to someone who has a lot of friends and/or appreciates a friendly face.
While you get to meet new people, just realize you could have been making friends or could have made friends IF YOU HAD STARTED EARLIER. I don't mean that in a way that says "it's your fault for starting so late" I mean that in a way that says "You haven't been around long enough to even make friends"
So I don't see how this will be suddenly helpful to new players.
All this is doing is causing a degree of anxiety for people who are friends but who may not share the same shell. Or perhaps are being pulled in different directions?
A better way of handling this would be to initially have 2 servers merge but give people the option of switching their current classes over to one of the new merged servers.
not axe all current servers and put everyone in one big shuffle box. :/
The devs might release more info on this.
However, lets say all the LS members decide on server No.1, wont that solve the problem?
I might ofc loose some friends that decide to go in a diffrent server with thier LS, but atleast I will have most of my LS with me in the new server.
What do you think ppl?
This is why people are complaining actually. The devs might release more info on this.

They want to keep 100% of their friends even if they are distant friends...or perhaps not even friends at all.
In other words, they want to have cake and eat it too.
It will do a lot to help the problem, yes. But I have two large LSs and one that I have a lot of old friends in in case they ever come back--so much for that idea... So assuming I convince my LSs want to move with me, what if there's another member in the linkshell in that same situation. Either someone loses a lot of friends, or the entire server moves at once.. which is pretty much a server merge. =/The devs might release more info on this.

Am I reading this correctly, after the service is complete on March 12th, new players that come into this game won't be able to select a server, but instead get randomly placed onto one? The old FFXI way? Oh man.........
Also, what happens to the people who quit, who won't be returning after this point. Do they just get randomly thrown onto a server not of their choosing?
According to what is released so far, ppl who went on a break will come back on some "random server". Most likly not where they left thier friends.
Aka, if you are taking a break, you will have to start from scratch when you come back (community wise). Servers will have more players, but you will be alone at start.
