I'm a new player and I think a change like this is great. It's hard to make friends because everyone's already comfortable playing with friends, or maybe it just seems that way in my world. This way, there will at least be a few more people in the server I get taken to, and people who are currently playing with friends can easily coordinate. Also, I doubt they're going to leave people who plan to re-sub in the dust. Though the current plan is as it is, there are countless possibilities for allowing friends to be in the same server in the future.

That's actually something I never thought about. I haven't been been back entirely that long myself, but it's hard to see things from this point of view. Thanks for pointing that out. It took me a week or so after I came back to get into linkshells, but soon after I had a plethora of friends. This will be great for people who've been having trouble joining into already-established groups.
