How about this? SE recommend new servers for the old ones so if you want to keep all your firend ls and all you just join the recomended server while anyone who wnats to change for whatever reason joins another one?

EXAMPLE

server 1 = Selbina
server 2 = Gysahl
server 3 = cornelia + wutai
server 4 = figaro + bodhum
server 5 = mysidia + karnak
server 6 = kashuan + palamecia
server 7 = trabia + melmond
server 8 = fabul + istory
server 9 = besaid + saronia
server 10 = Lindblum + rabanastre (recomended for europe)

wouldnt that be a almost perfect solution? almost like solution 2 from yoshi but still without revealing the severnames so everyone rushes for favorite servers?

Cornelia could be European recommended, Rabnastre is fine in terms of distribution I've noticed when I log in to play with old Phoenix LS mates.

I really hope that Plan#2 is possible. It seems like the best way to go all around if the game's client can handle it. It keeps already established communities intact, while at the same time, giving people the option of moving on to a new place if they wanted to. I wager most people will want to stick with the players they've known thou.

I notice how everyone saying this is from a server that doesn't really need help. Not surprising; you're not the ones who are going to have to integrate into an established community.
