This game isnt aobut making freinds or having fun its about getting the highest ranking on ffxivpro, its serious buisness.I've got a close friend who can't play right now because of real life issues. She came back before the game went pay to play and had to disappear after. It's not that she doesn't want to pay, but it's hard when you're moving between places and trying to get back on your feet. She told me before that I was one of the reasons she kept playing this game. And now thanks to a stupid decision like this if she can't get back before the end of next month she's going to be shipped off to a random world. A one in ten chance she'll land on the same server as I'm on. This happens, she probably won't be playing anymore.
A decision like this hurts a lot of business. Who's really going to return to a server where they don't even know anyone because all their friends are off on another server? It's not that everyone out there does feel the game isn't worth the money, some do, some don't. Some can't afford it or have IRL priorities that come first. Still, this news is pretty much forcing people to pay for the game right now even if they don't want to, or risk being thrown into a random server and pray it's the same one as your friends. If people were going to wait to come back to I can almost guarantee that this will make sure they don't return ever.
Distributing people who have not decided is the worst possible decision. More than half of our Linkshell is currently inactive, most of them are just waiting for 2.0 and most of them have high level jobs. You are just gonna make them redo all that ? That's gonna make the decision for them not to play again much easier to make. Or there should be a way after to merge to still switch servers.
I think the best way is for each server to have a default 'new' server, this way if no new world has been decided, everyone just transfers to the default one, keeping groups together instead of randomly scattering them across worlds destroying their (leveling-)work so easily. I really hope you reconsider this, not just for the LS, but also for the social contacts you're going to break.

This is just the initial merge. SE has only revealed how they are going about handling the current population.
Their is still "the future" where SE can allow server transfers for existing or returning players. For those of you with friends who are on hiatus, or waiting for ver 2.0 there may still be hope for them down the road.
yes it would have been nice if SE had a more robust description of how they plan to handle returning players. But I'm sure they haven't discounted them entirely, those accounts don't pertain to the current matter at hand: "Present Player Population"
It's really difficult to get low level parties together because everyone's with their friends at L50. I'm not setting myself up for disappointment (since it might not exactly fix that issue) but I'm excited for the possibility of seeing a more lively, lower level community.Well...won't we be transferred again to New Servers come v 2.0 and I presume the population restrictions will be lifted then so missing friends and LS members still may have a chance to find you.
Remember that this merger is just to increase populations for current subscribers in order to make partying easier, improve the Markets/Economies and presumably create a fuller gaming experience for paying customers.
Great news. Thanks SE!
You sir, are a voice of reason, and will be ignored for that.Well...won't we be transferred again to New Servers come v 2.0 and I presume the population restrictions will be lifted then so missing friends and LS members still may have a chance to find you.

However; I am not trying to troll you. In fact I think I love you.
Your analogy is poor. My friends are not asking for cash. SE did there best to swiftly give us a very much needed server merger. The fact that you have to be sub is a small price to pay. If 10 dollars is breaking the bank, you shouldn't be playing a mmorpg.
