    Why the current weekly cap on i360 gear in most-recent 24-man raids baffles me.

    *in the most recent 24-man raid (typo)

    Let's be clear here. The current item level cap is i370, obtained from Diamond gear in Sigmascape Savage or Dai-Ryumyaku gear, which is upgraded Mendacity tome gear.

    The tier below that is i360 gear, which has 3 options each left-side gear piece:

    1. Ryumyaku gear (unupgraded Mendacity tome gear)
    2. Augmented crafted gear, which is obtained by trading in i350 crafted gear and Thavnairian Rain (Creation tomes).
    3. i360 Ivalician gear, obtained from Ridorana Lighthouse.

    Ryumyaku gear is obviously weekly capped because of Mendacity tomes, but with enough grinding, you can get every Augmented i360 crafted gear for the job of your choosing in a week, at minimum.

    So why can you only roll on i360 Ivalician gear once a week? It is essentially a sidegrade to Augmented crafted gear, being that they have different substats.

    I expect arguments such as these:
    • People just run Ridorana Lighthouse for glamour.
    • Augmented Crafted gear is enough anyway.
    • You can meld materia of a stat you want on a piece that doesn't have those stats anyway.

    But it irks me when I am gearing my alt classes to the max iLvl outside of the weekly caps and there is a piece that has the stats I want that is subject to a weekly cap despite not being of the max ILvl for the patch.

    Here's an example of a problem that could come about:



    (Mind you, I already have an i370 headpiece for my healers.) Say I wanted Piety - the only way to obtain it is through Ridorana. What if I already rolled on something else in Ridorana that week? That prevents me from obtaining that until next week.

    It's a small problem that isn't important at this point because some people might have already gotten a higher iLvl headpiece for healers, for example, but it's a problem that doesn't have to exist.

    Ridorana having a weekly cap on Gougan Coins makes sense because those are traded in for Ryumyaku Solvents or Polish up upgrade Mendacity gear, which is capped. It makes sense to put a weekly cap on those since doing hunts (another option of getting those two upgrade components) takes a far longer grind despite not being weekly capped.

    Regardless, if you're going to put a weekly cap on gear, SE, please put it on something that is the max iLvl for the current patch, not something that is a tier below.

    Your case is flawed. Take for example a major patch like 4.2. The new crafted gear is i350... yet the normal mode raid gear is also i350. Why bother doing the normal mode raid if you can simply craft a full set of i350?

    The answer is - there isn't a reason apart from sheer cost and weekly lockout. I got myself a full set of i350 and only ran the normal mode raid for glamour.

    Now for 4.3, Ridorana is i360 and comes with various weekly locked items such as gear and upgrade tokens in addition to tomestone lockouts. Why bother doing Ridorana for gear when there is crafted i360 now? It's the same reason, the cost of getting crafted gear. For those people where cost is an issue, tomestone gear gets them i360 + a weekly i370 upgrade as long as their tomestones can keep up with buying gear and Ridorana supplements the other slots.

    You're not entitled to full i370 or easymode i360 on your alts yet, that's all. That comes with the full unlock patch, probably 4.38.

    I think sigma savage would have restrictions removed in 4.38 but ridorana will not until 4.4, which is more to the OP's point that lockouts are done in a weird way. I'm all for them reevaluating the timing and distribution of rewards in 5.x series as I think a lot of people are tired of the samey structure, but it's also not really a big deal and works well enough I guess.

    The idea is basically boiling down to a cost vs. time investment. The Ridorana gear costs you nothing yet will take several weeks to acquire, much like Mendacity pieces. Augmented crafted gear, meanwhile, can be fully obtained in five minutes but costs however much the crafters charge. So it boils down to what you value more, your time or your gil.

    Possibly because some players (myself included) run multiple jobs. Stat wise some of the gear is good and while you cannot upgrade it, it makes for good filler gear

    You just summed up why everyone runs content in this game in the first place. The weekly lockouts are simply there to keep people invested and locked in longer so they can complete their ideal glamour set. However, Ridorana and Rabanastre have been underwhelming for tanks and borderline ugly. Melee dps got Vaan's armor so here's hoping the Judges set is in the final tier.

    I have been playing for 3 years and I dont have a problem with the way it is. It keeps people from maxing their gear out in the first week then having nothing to do until next patch.

    I think a part of it for this game in particular is the multi-job characters.

    For instance i main healer so my diamond gear from raiding is healer stuff
    I play mage and tank a lot in more casual settings so my tomestones ended up going towards those
    I wanted to try out SAM since it doesn't have as much of the current things i dislike about melee dps so my ridorana gear has been going SAM

    not perfect but can kind of see how having all kinds of sources helps gear out several jobs simultaneously
