Little question about Upheaval on WAR

Hello people how are you doing ?

First of all if there's already a topic about this subject, I apologize in advance for the inconvenience but my researches turned up nothing.

So my question (even if it can seem really dumb to some and I would understand) is : I recently hit lvl 64 on WAR (and I love it), how should I use the Upheaval skill to its fullest ? Because I'm a bit confused by what it does.

I understand it depends on your HP, like Spirits Within on PAL, and that Thrill of Battle can have an influence on it but that's what's confusing me.

Usually I use Thrill of Battle for "emergency" situations like when I'm suddenly under 50% HP or when I'm approaching 50% HP.
So I guess you have to first use TOB then Upheaval when your Beast Gauge allows it but also when you're at full life or almost ?

I tried it on a Susano normal trial and I can see how it can dish some damage but I still need your help on how to use it to its full potential.

Sorry for the long post and have a nice day.

Usually you want to keep Thrill on cooldown as much as you can, remember it also increases your max HP so you have 20 seconds to actually take the damage before it wears off. If you pair Thrill with Convalescense, they technically become a 20% mitigation cooldown.

For Upheaval, same story, just keep that cooldown ticking If you use it within the duration of Thrill (and there is no downtime preventing you from doing so), they'll always be back for eachother when they come off CD.

It will change a bit once you get to level 70. In general, though, yes you will want to try and pair Upheaval with TOB when available. To be honest I've always struggled with the concept of using defensive CDs for offensive increases, but it does work. For future reference Upheaval is also buffed by Unchained, if for whatever reason you happen to be in Defiance. You're going to have to play it a little by ear, like if you are tanking a giant group of mobs in a dungeon it might be better to save TOB for clutch heal if needed. If tanking a single target boss you shouldn't really need TOB so use to boost Upheaval damage.

The best way to use upheaval is when you begin your opener, with Berserk. Afterwards, use upheaval on cooldown, and be strict with using it as soon as it's available. The reason for this is that if used on cooldown, upheaval will always align and become available when you use berserk. It doesn't matter if your HP is low, or if storm's eye drops-- the moment you see that button come off cooldown, MASH it. This way, you ensure upheaval will be used as much as possible, AND gets buffed by berserk/inner release.

Now, as for ToB and Unchained, when you start to get into extreme and savage raids, I wouldn't suggest pairing ToB with upheaval. I would suggest waiting until either your gear increases and allows you to survive without ToB, or when you've planned your cooldowns in such a way with any given instance that ToB can be used at a certain phase, and still be available when you need its defensive capability.
